Cheap dyneema float line

Has anyone tried one of these in the water? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071FZ7RTB..._t3_B071YBR1J3

It could be a good float line alternative (after removing those rust collectors in each loop).

It comes down to $.4/foot which is pretty cheap for UHMWPE rope of that thickness.

Thoughts?

Re: Cheap dyneema float line

Here is the product description. Weighs 6.4 ounces, but floats.

Ranger UHMWPE Synthetic Winch Rope 6,000LBs for ATV Winch by Ultranger (3/16" x 50') is safer than steel wire rope, Stronger than steel wire rope, Extremely lightweight makes it easy to use, Floats in water, Torque-free, No more cut hands from wire splinters or burrs, Will not kink like steel wire rope, Will not rust. Your winch will work more efficiently. The further the winch line is from the center of the drum, the less pulling power the winch will have. Using a soft rope that each layer of line is closer to the surface of the drum than a steel wire rope would be. In many winching scenarios it can be difficult to ensure the line is spooled on the winch neatly and the line can get bunched up on one area of the drum. This can allow the winch line to contact the winch housing or winch mounting plate, which can cause damage to the line or the winch itself. Therefore, Ranger winch rope is your perfect choice.

It is marked as unavailable, so must have sold out.

The home Depot carries a bunch of colors, e.g. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Extreme-...3224/306535520

Might be worth just buying one to test

Re: Cheap dyneema float line

We just get norprene tubing. We have tried a variety of ways to thread high strength line inside. The one that works best is to cut a small hole in the side of the tubing about 3" from the end. Lay the tube out straight on the ground. You thread monofilament thru the side hole and out the nearby end, then tie on a bit of cotton ball from a medical kit for a not-too-snug fit. Now push the cotton back into the tube and press a garden hose onto the end. It will push the mono thru as fast as you can feed it. Then pull your high strength line back thru with the mono. Then you will need some plugs and swivels and silicone and tying line and such to do up the ends. A lobster float on one end won't compress if dragged down. A tuna clip on the other end will connect to your gunline. The high strength line should be about 25' longer than the tubing. Terry Maas in Bluewater Hunting and Freediving provides detailed instructions. Slips thru kelp like butter. Make it about as long as your deepest routine dives.
This is a youtube one guy did:

Re: Cheap dyneema float line

A slick surface flexible tube will be easier to drag through the water than an exposed woven line just as monofilament has less drag than a twisted line of the same diameter for fishing. A reinforcing twisted line can go inside the tube being bunched up so that the tube can stretch before it hits the limits set by the internal line length that has been scrunched up in the outer tubing. Similar to the speargun bungees, but a lot longer, as if you cut one up inside the line is coiled.

Re: Cheap dyneema float line

Why do you need dyneema for a float line?

I've been using foam filled Polypropylene lately and it works like a dream. Your maximum needed strenght is the lift of your float.
