Re: DIY magnetic muzzle mod for JBL Woody?

This is an earlier patent taken out in France, although the inventor’s names sound Italian and there may be other jurisdiction patents taken out for this same patent application. This patent also decribes a magnetic line release where the shooting line has a sliding metal ring that is yanked off the trigger fingerguard installed magnet by the departing spear during the shot.

Found it, Italian version is ITRM20030095 (U1) 2003-12-26

I actually found this French patent when years ago I went searching for Jay's patent once I was told that it was going on the next version of the Riffe Euro gun. It was always a concern that water in the timber would slowly creep through and corrode the magnet as rust grows in size and could split or crack the timber stock. A magnet could be buried in silicone elastomer and sealed in. Some epoxies absorb water, in the early days heart pacemakers were encapsulated in epoxy and inserted in the body, but after a year some began to fail as body juices got into the epoxy and damaged the circuits. No IC's in those days, you could see the circuit boards buried in the epoxy. Later versions are in titanium and are a million times more complex than the early models, which today seem almost Stone Age units by comparison, and are a fraction of the size.

Pete, that looks like a Patent Application from Riffe, not a Patent. Did you find the granted Patent?

No, I never found the patent and each time I looked that same document came up. Patents only last for so long (about 15 to 20 years, it varies) and as it is expensive to defend a patent, so they are often just used by copyists without too much regard for the laws. Anything goes in China, so they have built most of their industry on "borrowed" ideas.

Incidentally the patent was also applied for by Jay in Australia, AU2006202168.
