Re: South African Cat!!
Hola Miles,
Very very nice DR.FISH II !! When i grow up i want to be like you Just a question from Dani, Which is in your opinion the best cat hull in the 7-8 meter size for SA waters? We have here this kind of weather too. Not too rough normally, but we live in the part of Spain called "Costa da morte" (Death shoreline). |

Re: South African Cat!!
Hiya
Fernando, you were on 'Dr.Fish1' and know how she rides. That boat was over 20 years old!! The newer butt-cats are far more fuel efficient and run alot better. My 32' 'Dr.Fish2' is actually 35% lighter on fuel than my old 26' 'Dr.Fish1', even with larger motors and pushing larger weight. They make a 21' butt-cat. Some spearo's opt for the low gunwhale version and use motors as small as 2x40hp's. They also build a 23' which is basically a lengthened 21'. Both the 21' and 23' can be powered by 2x40hp to 2x140hp motors. They then have their 28' version, which is slightly larger than "Dr.Fish1". Powered by 2x90hp all the way up to 2x200hp. With 2x90hp suzuki's, that 28'er does 28knts top end with a crew of 4. WIth 2x140hp suzuki's she does 34-35knts and with 2x175hp suzuki's well over 40knts. Many guys love the 21/23' boats becuase you can trailer them and tow them around, yet still be able to take them 40nm off-shore. If you make them light, by using low gunwhales, 2x50hp 4strokes will push the boat to 28knts+, which will also give good fuel economy as well as be cheaper to buy!! My plan is actually to get a 21/23' butt-cat later in the year and rig it up as a spearfishing boat. The picture below shows a 21' with high gunwhales. The low gunwhale version simply stops were the green/turquiose top moulding starts. |
