Recommended varnish or finish for spear gun

Is there a recommendation for a spacific sealant or varnish I can use on my custom built mahogany gun that will protect it from salt water, UV, scrates...Man I'm keeping that speargun in a sleeping bag next year.

Most use either oil or epoxy, probably more epoxy than oil. I've used WRLPU with good results, which is a water reducible cross linked polyurethane from Three Systems. I've applied it over epoxy, but my next guns will be directly over wood.

I Hate anything but oil...but all my guns are Teak.
This is a mahogany gun,,,So go with an epoxy coating...but be anal about it, get into all the screw holes and trigger mech cuts..

NO RAW WOOD!

Re: Recommended varnish or finish for spear gun

I actually like the look of oil as well, but mahogany is pretty soft, so epoxy or urethane would probably be better. The urethane is harder than epoxy, and is easier to work with because it's water reducible, but it's more expensive than epoxy. I've used Three Systems epoxy with excellent results, but there are lots of good ones out there. Just make sure it is the type that is clear when dry. Phil's epoxy is pretty popular, and he sells it in small enough quantities so you don't have to buy a lot of extra just for one gun.

X3 on epoxy and x2 on Phil's epoxy. You can get it through Neptonics. Another thing I'd get (if I didn't already have one) would be a rotisserie.
