Pelengas Pneumatic Spearguns

Although I think of Spearboard as "band gun world" I realize that there are users here of pneumatic spearguns. Guns that have not attracted much attention in the West are the various pneumatic models from the Ukraine. Originally these “Pelengas” guns had big problems, like busting their pistons, but over time the problems were solved and the guns have moved on a couple of model generations since then. I have two of them which I purchased once the guns evolved, a couple of 70 cm guns which are for short to medium range work and they are very good. If you want to test your arm they have a 140 cm model and a 100 cm model in rear biased mid-handle and a 100 cm in rear handle. The guns are well made and can be bought from the Pelengas Store on eBay and the Pelengas Shop. https://speargun.shop/pc

The eBay Pelengas Store is very reliable and shipping costs are very reasonable. What I ordered I received no problems and have also purchased a bunch of reels and speartips. Note, I have no connection with the store.

I bought some items from them. I love their runners (sliding rings) and also their titanium reels.

Re: Pelengas Pneumatic Spearguns

A victim which must have been second shot judging by the spear. (line tied at the spear tail, notched shaft)

Re: Pelengas Pneumatic Spearguns

Pelengas spearguns have a molded inlet valve cap with a wide screwdriver slot in the rear which is curved rather than straight cut across to form a slot. Unfortunately a screwdriver blade will twist out and rip up the plastic, so you really need a coin to undo it. The molded threads are very tight at first and even gripping a coin can be problematic. However in a 2 dollar shop I found this version of a mini vice-grip which with a coin makes the perfect tool for undoing this rear cap as you can press while twisting which removes any risk of tearing the cap, something very easy to do otherwise as it is hollow like a thimble and is not solid.

Re: Pelengas Pneumatic Spearguns

You could aways use a holesaw of the appropiate inner diameter, drill through a suitable piece of steel, clean the slug and weld it to cheapo screw driver after cutting the tip off... I know I know... much more complicated than the solution pictured above...

Only in photos and the 120 cm rear handle model. It costs USD 488 to buy, plus shipping.

The gun has the new muzzle where the plastic cap has been replaced by a longer plastic end that screws over the muzzle tube rather than into a screw threaded cup. This arrangement holds the replaceable vacuum cuff, the metal muzzle holds the piston in the gun.

Re: Pelengas Pneumatic Spearguns

There is now a "Varvar" model which has a new trigger mechanism. Instead of a “see-saw” sear lever, which is essentially a flattened single piece trigger, the new gun uses an unstable sear lever that is blocked by the trigger pull rod from moving. This idea was used in the past by Nemrod in their big banger "Mariner" models. The piston’s mushroom tail has an angled face rather than being square cut at 90 degrees and that causes the sear lever to roll once pulling the trigger moves the pull rod out of the way.

As can be seen the "Varvar" also has the new version of the muzzle.
A video shows the sear lever tilts and catches on the pull rod tip holding the sear lever open rather than immediately falling back, thus unlike the Nemrod the sear lever does not need to push back using a slot in the sear lever.
