The flopper being held down by the shooting line is OK if the flopper has smooth edges, but I have seen floppers that had shear cut edges that were sharp, so you don't want them nicking the shooting line with say replacement spears purchased elsewhere. Also some floppers have turned up rear ends where they are pointed, you don't want that type ploughing through the shooting line on the way out of the gun.

This pivoting ring keeper using a section of spring coil worked quite well in the past. Passing through the fish the ring swivelled rearwards releasing the flopper, but did not get pulled off the shaft as tension in the ring kept it in place.

I know I am repeating myself but you keep amazing me with your craftsmanship.

Can you tell us more about this trigger you are using?
I noticed on some of your guns you use this and on others the Ermes Sub DR.

I see you wrapped the complete gun in cf. is that because you’re looking for that extra stiffness or is it just because of your clients preference?

Has that ever been done on a shaft in the way you explain it?
I certainly like a retaining method where you are not dependent on a rubber o-ring that ends up half way your shooting line after every shot.

You are right. Sometimes I use Ermes DR sometimes my own trigger. It works very well. Ermes now seems to work fine with smooth trigger but in the past there was some child ilness.

Talking of carbon fiber both reason are present. It's a long gun so I want it to prevent bending and customer wanted to be wrapped.
If a little bending is present that's not a problem because track is made just several centimeters long in front of trigger and at the muzzle, so shaft is just on two points and that makes it straight.

I am one of those who tune the floppers to stay open, sharpens the back end and raises it a little bit. So far I haven't damaged my line and in one of the guns the setup is just like this. Doesn't seem to affect it much.

It was used on double flopper threaded speartips back in the sixties, I had a lot of them, but over the years were smashed and lost. My last one disappeared when as a temporary measure I stuck it my dive boot cuff, waded out and the water drag caused it to be lost. Quarter of an hour searching the bottom, but it was gone. The type was discontinued during a cost cutting period and never came back, as also case hardened tips were abandoned and we entered the age of the "rubbish tip" made of soft metal.

The loops were not used on integral tip shafts because those shafts were as simple as possible and drilled for the flopper pivot pin. To use the loops you need flats on the shaft as otherwise fitting the loop ends would be very difficult. The spring steel loops are under tension as they are sprung out of alignment to keep them on and they swing with a slight resistance, hence the pits they pivot in are out of alignment side to side in the longitudinal direction.

Ideally integral tip shafts should be made with replacement points to provide a step in diameter where the flopper (or floppers) sit in the flow shadow of the tip. That is how the more hydrodynamic tips were made in the past and in the cost reduction period all these intricacies were lost and have been forgotten.

Excellent attention to detail, including bird profile on the reel mount! I notice that band battery travel is in a recessed section under the stock.

What is the shooting range of this gun in terms of "range striking target". This is as distinct from "range flying of the shaft" as guns can shoot a lot further than they can kill.

Reel is Ermes Falco 77 so all credits about it goes to them.
This roller will be used on Croatian coast of Adriatic Sea and it's mainly made for amberjacks and dentex.
New owner said that up to 6 m from the tip it shoot into the point and on 7 m it's still bulleye shot.

That is very good performance for a speargun, good range and a consistent shot is what is required to achieve a fatal hit in the desired location on the target.

What is the weight of the gun and the build time on the carbon fiber gun body before screwing it all together?
