Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
The Freeman isn't getting it's posted numbers in real world conditions either. An owner posted this on the last page of the Hull Truth thread where you guys are pulling your #s.
"We also did some rough water testing with 4 men running FULL tab in stacked 3-4' head sea with 20knot northeast winds. Speed was around 23-27mph and we averaged 1.5mpg."

YOUR previous example of a monohull getting 2MPG was NOT from a real fishing trip either. see below So youre basing numbers off a craigslist add from a guy trying to sell you his monohull. That's not real world numbers. And throw in "3-4ft seas full trimmed up" and I bet that monohull you posted off craigslist gets .9mpg

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
The stepped hull on the Freeman is quite and inovation but the same stepping has caused negative returns on heavily loaded monos. There is no free ride in improving performance. A boat owner of any hull configuration can only hope they land in a balance of performance for load in common, real sea conditions.

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
I'll go with V hulls or "It's not a cat, its a Freeman"

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
The Freeman is a power cat disguised as a semi displacement. The fact they are powering a 27 foot boat with over 600 horsepower puts it in a class above what most would consider practical. Would I take one? Certainly, but I would never put that much of my cash into that small a boat considering what you could get for the same money.

Re: Cat vs Mono - Revive the debate
The Freeman 29VH is the Holy Grail of boats.
And I've owned or test drove them all. The Freeman 33 is amazing, but too big/wide to trailer often. One big pro of a cat is the dive ladder set up, nothing comes as close on a V hull except the side dive door. To each his own. I'm very very happy with my V hull. For now. C
