Re: Diver sucked into a nuclear power plant
lol...this surely looks like a work. They had to have signs around this intake. I mean...c'mon.

Re: Diver sucked into a nuclear power plant
Unfortunately This isn't that uncommon...
It happens with all sorts or water pick-up systems..from cooling water to drinking water. I remember a guy getting sucked into a Chicago/lake Michigan water intake years back, he wasn't so lucky. |

Re: Diver sucked into a nuclear power plant
I'd like to have a go at those 'huge fish' at the end of the pipe! Might be worth the ride..

I'm with you. And not to mention the fact that there was this great big huge a$$ power plant right there either. That would be like diving around a floating oil rig in the gulf and being suprized when you get sucked up into the thrusters. Bu i also agree that going thru the pipe would be a great way to sneak up on the huge fish at the end. Wouldnt work for me though, i cant hold my breath that long. |

Re: Diver sucked into a nuclear power plant
That water gravity flows into the pool where the pump takes a suction from the pool. Most all power plants that use open water are built like that. A safery factor making it very hard to get killed buy the pumps impellers.

I wonder if they throw the fish back into the ocean. Conversely, they could charge the public to come in and fish for them, and make a little money out of it.

Re: Diver sucked into a nuclear power plant
I've a father's friend that works at a power plant that utilizes a fresh water lake. He has access to the 'cooling pond' at said power plant and has the opportunity to fish it. He catches coolers full of huge Crappie, which IMO, are the best eating fresh water fish in Florida.

Re: Diver sucked into a nuclear power plant
I worked on a clean up in the water intake for a nuclear plant in Minn. we were dredging up clams that plugged a 4" hose. I have never seen clams that big, I was glad to get out of the water on that job. Gave me the wellie's diving in a room off the Mississippi river in total darkness with 2-100HP pumps running in the next room.
