Worst weather conditions to dive

Was wondering whats the worst weather conditions you guys will go out to shoot some fish in is. I get that a lot of it is boat size dependent but i think theres a time when no matter how big of a boat it is its just not worth it.

Thanks!

Red face Re: Worst weather conditions to dive

I once heard a guy answer that question by saying:

"Whenever the wave height is higher than the viz"

Be safe out there
Mike.

haha that's a good one Mike.

When I used to dive often, i'd try and keep it below 2-4's. I've had some commercial trips in 6-8's though and that sucks

Trying to get back on a boat in large waves can be very hazardous. It always seems that the dive ladder/boat is coming down as you are going up, and visa versa...

20 knot winds. Was out the other day in 20-25 knot winds on a 31 contender with 4-6 footers with the occasional monster wave. Only reason I went out was 100 foot viz and not being able the last month. I wouldn’t recommend it to recreational shoot and wouldn’t go out in those conditions unless you really trust yourself, and the boat driver.

There were more than a few times I put my fin on the end of my gun to wave down the boat in nasty seas...as long as I can see the fish I'll always get in.
