Re: Parrots
Beautiful bird!I got bit deep(superglue gel is great stuff) by a Scarlet Macaw that was a breeder.I knew better but tried to make friends anyway.
Popeye flew at the wife and bit her arm.She was playing Madonna music over and over thinking his prancing on the cage puffed up with his eyes pinned was him enjoying her music. She was wrong! Now he has heard spanish curse words. Next day he still seems to like her betterHe was swaying to Steely Dan and seems to like some of the older rock and country.

Re: Parrots
I adopted a Cockatoo(moluccan)a few days ago.She is in rough shapeShe stinks from cigarettes, grease and dirt. She has plucked her chest feathers and a wound on her breast.Im figuring about 4 months and she will be healed and feathered again. She has had several spray showers and her colors are getting brighter and the stench is going away.
On the bright side she is a love sponge and gets along with everyone. She freaked the wife out when she did what Cockatoos do.Now she has her and everyone else laughing at her antics. Her name is Baby.

Re: Parrots
Trying to get the two birds used to each other and not fight.Popeye is a jealous prick so they have to be petted when they cant see each other. If he hears anyone talking to Baby or playing with her he comes off the cage and waddles to where they are at and runs her off the couch.Kids with beaks.

Re: Parrots
Hookbills are magnificent but I would never own one. For one thing they live forever and who would take care of it after I'm gone? For another, they are genetically driven to be social. Either you get two (and that's a lot of money) or you spend the rest of your life being a parrot's flock mate. No, like fine blooded horses and expensive Italian sports cars, I can admire parrots without wanting one.

Re: Parrots
I have two for now but may adopt a MacawWhen I croak the kids or grandkids get them. They already play with them and are bonding so they probably wont miss me except for the treats and toys.

Re: Parrots
HUGE responsibility. My mom 'rescued' an emotionally obviously abused Macaw from her POS sister when I was a kid. I had to listen and deal w/ this very loud aggressive bird for many years until my Mom finally found a zoo to take it in. It was a horrible time to deal w/ that bird.
My mom, being of good spirit meant well...but that bird was already corrupt and there was no turning back...day and night constantly squawking and aggressive. It was miserable . Them fricken things live forever...please choose wisely...otherwise, you might regret your decision for a long time.

Re: Parrots
Baby (Cockatoo)loves to cuddle like a dog or cat.Popeye(amazon)gets a little snotty at times but still likes to be petted and scratched every evening.
They take a commitment to care for them. They need attention and will get it one way or another. The Cockatoo loves to throw things she finds then laughs.Wifes phone got thrown but the wife didnt laugh Birds can be messy too.I have their cages on a covered porch so cleaning isnt that bad.The fruits and vegetable treats attract insects so cleaning everyday is important. Big birds arent for everyone but for me its worth the effort.

Re: Parrots
Babysitting so I figure let them wear each other out.Youngest Grandson has no fear and pets my Amazon.Bird must realize its a child because he gets docile and cuddly with the kid.He still gets goofy around the wife
