Re: Dyneema shooting line for roller?

Just got my order of dyneema yesterday. Nice stuff but stiff so I guess thats a good thing. Will it get more limp in time?

A little, but it stays stiff. It will loose some color over time. It's good stuff.

Again, one loop is more than enough.

Re: Dyneema shooting line for roller?

Thanks Marco. Will it tangle with two or three wraps if I use it in PI with long shots like 20-25 foot?

I don't think so. But I don't think you're gonna hit anything alive 25 feet away either...

Re: Dyneema shooting line for roller?

I shoot three wraps on my 115 in PI and it’s 28ft from muzzle to target but I don’t think I would take a shot that far that was just an example as far as line tangle. I have no problem with mono but dyneema is new to me.

Re: Dyneema shooting line for roller?

This dyneema works just like mono. Or better, because it has no memory.

Re: Dyneema shooting line for roller?

Marco that’s good to know I’ll try it in hopes it will hold up on the reefs better than mono.

Way better. That's why I switched.

As far as wishbones with dyneema. If you take the ends and knott them and insert them in your rubber and tie them should you have to replace them can you very carefully cut and remove the knott with out cutting the rubber will you be able to replace it? Or do you have to shorten the rubber an inch or so?

If you are asking about the constrictor knot, you can normally cut those with a very sharp blade without hurting the rubber. But consider switching to inserts or at least make the knot you insert end in a small loop. With either loops or inserts, they stay in the rubber and only the small section of dyneema wishbone between them gets changed when worn out. That way, you don’t have to cut the constrictor knot.
It also makes changing wishbones faster and easier and you are more likely to do it “proactively”;-)

Btw, though I’m not sure he’s tested this particular thing I know SpearQ8 feels that there might be a bit of performance improvement from using inserts. The thinking is that they seal the rubber from water ingress and water being incompressible if the rubber is full of water it would make it more difficult for it to contract.

Yes I was talking about the constrictor knot. The loop inserts is what I use anyway I was just wondering cause I saw on one of the dive shops they sell wishbone with the plastic bead on the ends and insert directly in the rubber. I was curious if anyone does this and how it worked out for them.

DON'T

Also, having the inserts fixed in place and the wishbone removable... allows you to add/remove bands from a gun on the go in a few seconds. Quite handy if the muzzle of your gun is a through hole without a cutout to slide out the wishbone.

You could, if you're very carefull. But normally, rubber relaxes over time and cutting 1/2" on each side won't hurt.

Talking specifically about rollers, I like to keep wishbones as short as possible as it makes easier to load the speargun because the constrictor knot is already in the roller and you don't have to pull it.

I don't know if I was clear, but the shorter the wishbone, the better...

Thanks Marco. After I posted I realized that the rubber will stretch out over time so shortening it is probley a good thing anyway.
