Re: Puerto Rico Blue Water Hunting
So please tell me if you will, how do you go about hunting Hoo's in the blue??? Chum them up or just jump in in an area they are known to frequent and wait till they swim by?
I would bout pop a nut shooting one of those... One time, I had one come flying by me as I was lining up on a Tuna and it was moving so fast I didnt have time to even swing on it.... Then I turned back and the tuna were gone... Damn.... Christof

Re: Puerto Rico Blue Water Hunting
Wahoos will come to you if you dont chase them.
The same place you saw one, others will pass by. Just dont even look at them, aim your gun and they will come right on front of you. They are like puppies if you know what you are doing. Chumming and flasher do work, for blue water you need all the help you can get, chumming in sharky areas is not a good idea.

Re: Puerto Rico Blue Water Hunting
Great photos and unreal fish Roberto. You're good. Is the behavior of wahoos pretty much the same as spanish mackerels? I notice small ones will just cruise by me many times checking me out. I don't bother with them because they are usually too small. But they come right up to me.

Re: Puerto Rico Blue Water Hunting
Well
I went out to the blue water, and got lucky again, weather has been awesome. We were paddy jumping, for a long time, all we got was triple tails, some of them very big, but I only shot one big, and stayed at the boat, one of the guys shot a triple tail and all of a sudden a nice Dorado appears right under him, he starts screaming it was all over him, I had taken my gear out, and just put my mask on without snorkel, no fins, and jumped in the water, mask was fogging real bad, it was hard to go down withe the wet suits pants floating , but the dorado came right at me, so it was not a hard shot, we are still lauging so hard. Re: Puerto Rico Blue Water Hunting
So I guess we don't have to ask how you like the new gun? Man, that water is really blue!

Re: Puerto Rico Blue Water Hunting
Roberto you never cease to amaze me with the unbelievable pics. I see the tuna gun tom made you was in one of the pics, I would imagine with the diameter of the shafts you dont bend up too many. I would love to shoot a mahi as big as the one you guys have got in that one pic. mahi is my personal favorite and that is a biggin. excellent job again

Re: Puerto Rico Blue Water Hunting
Mahi are so incredibly good tasting fish, specially when you get it yourself and take good care of the meat.
This one, was alive while the pic was taken, he was moving so much I was afraid will fall back to the water. Pics look good because these fish are so damm pretty, was lucky weather was so incredibly good. Thats not always the case. I love Tom Mitzlaff tuna gun, but, this one was shot with my Omer one band gun, I also use many diferent guns, we were looking for mahi, jumping paddies , (weedlines, sargasum weed that is) My buddies were shooting Tripple tails and Skip jacks, (very dificult to hit), so one of the patches had a nice looking pair of Triple tails, and my friend Sein jumped in the water with a single band RA gun, he said he did not needed the float line for that, so he shots the fish and start screaming to us to get him another gun, he is got a big Riffe, so we are launging so hard because he start saying that he is got a mahi right under him, and it wants to eat the tripletail, sudenly the mahi gets next to my RIB boat, I only have on the pants of my OMER suit, and nothing else, and I see this beautifull fish, blue with the tail yellow, swim just under the RIB, and go back to Sein, who starts swiming to the boat, while screaming again, hahahaha, i put my mask on, no snorkel, no fins, try to load the one band OMER, am laughing so hard, have no gloves on, that is hilarious, cant load the band, while I can see the fish on my feet, so finally I stop looking at the water and listening the screams, or it was by this time begging for a gun, and load the gun, get slowly in the water, put my face down, go like 5 feet under with pants pulling me up(no weights), mask fogging really bad, make a nice shot, and jump back to the RIB, Sein takes both fish to the boat, while laughing really hard, and telling me how funny it was looking at me trying to load the gun, and gettin g in the water like that, It has happened before with blue marlins, not so funny when you loose the fish.
