Re: Beach Vis
Where is this "bathtub" I keep hearing about? I just got into scuba and spearfishing (formerly a freshwater freedive spearfisher). I've been to Pepper a few times with only marginal visability and a nabbed small sheepshead and hogfish. I'm coming from Palm Bay. Should I try spearing the bathtub? Any other suggestions in the area?
Thanks Scuba Steve |

Re: Beach Vis
BathTub and Pecks Lake have world renowned Worm Rock reef in shallow water and provide refuge and home to many juvenile species including snapper, sheephead, snook and margate. Snorkeling is great and fish come through (its the ocean).
The Worm Rock Reef is alive and protected by law, so use extreme caution when crossing to the outside. I think you called the Shop today- feel free to call for more information. |

Re: Beach Vis
Punch this into your gps: 301 Se Macarthur Blvd, Stuart, FL 34996
This is the address of the House of Refuge. Bathtub reef is at the end of the road that runs past the HOF. Try to do a High Tide dive for more depth.

Re: Beach Vis
That was my buddy Heath. I think he's set up a dive for us with deep6 this Friday. I was thinking of checking out bathtub afterwards on the way home. Is that a decent spot to spearfish or just for fish watching?
Thanks. |

Re: Beach Vis
7-8-09: BathTub (again) 8-12' visibility
Great day on the water, flat as a lake and chilly below 3'. Saw baby turtles, nudibrance, snook and shot a nice margate (don't laugh!). Attracted a beautiful 7' nurse shark with ramoras in tow and got a good laugh as a friend panicked in 3' of water. Comb jellies everywhere, including down my shorts... idk if the jelly stung me or what, but I was itching good. Did I mention there were jellyfish, millions of em'. Saw absolutely no lobster and found no reason to take kayaks, hookahs and gloves out at dawn on the 29th. Oh yeah, got a thrilling chance to scold some NY tourists who came prepared to trample the reef today! Yeah, they came equipped with close-toed-shoes and everything ready for a day of walking all over the reef. Ive been in contact with MC Parks and Recs about placing semi-permanent markers out in front of the reef explaining in simple terms STAY OFF THE REEF! since the county cant afford lifeguards... |

Re: Beach Vis
Decent vis off coral cove today. About 25 feet or so. I saw a couple big nurse sharks, a big ray with nothing on it, and a big school of Threadfins. What was really cool was when a 50 pound target swooped into the school right under us. Didn't see anything worth shooting though
