Re: Lionfish Predators

Just about every fish i shoot at will eat a lion fish, just as long as its injured, or at least that is what ive witnessed. Ive used them to lure in snapper and grouper. Truth be told its about the only time i shoot those damn things.

Re: Lionfish Predators

Keep in mind that the lionfish you saw as an adult is much smaller than the adult size of the lionfish that we have in the atlantic.

Still - an awesome video.

Re: Lionfish Predators

Wow! I missed this post when Tom first put it up. That was creepy.

Here is another video I found:

http://www.break.com/video/bobbit-wo...-break-2501316

Here are some images of the Bobbit Worm. One source says:

"The visible portion of the worm is quite misleading. Only a tiny mouth is visible, but the worms can grow to be well over 6 feet long, even in captivity. This is likely the reason why the meals have to be so large. In the aquarium, these worms don’t have near as much sand to dig into, but that doesn’t make them any less dangerous. The bobbit worms can still grow to be several feet long, and they’ve been blamed for the mysterious deaths of fish, clams, and plenty of other invertebrates."

Re: Lionfish Predators

I was retrofitting the old air curtains in Cudjoe Key at a nearby resort and got one of these bobbit worms on film too. It was SOOOOOOO freaky ....

Re: Lionfish Predators

I just found out that sea otters can eat spiny urchins. I wonder if we could get a train and release program here in FL to take care of the lionfish.

Re: Lionfish Predators

Probably some of these would do the job, but then might eat everything else.
