Re: For Sale: 18 foot Boston Whaler!!!

Get ready for cold water until the end of August. Viz is ok depending on the tide. Go to block Island during the summer and you'll get tropical fish from the warm core eddies that come close from the gulf stream. Stay clear of downtown Newport.
You'll like RW it's in a nice area.
Get a boat if you can or a ride on someone else's, there cheap enough. There are islands and coves you can go to and shoot Tautog and stripers. A few spots: Dutch island, the breakwater at Gallilee, Kings beach in Newport is a favorite of bubble blowers. Ft. Wetherill in Jamestown(big bubble blower place), Southeast light, Block Island(lightburne wreck). Those are just a few, There a lot of guys up there that spear. Check the forum and I'm sure you can get a hold of some locals.
Cheers

Trailer just got overhauled and it is like new! Got new bearings, new tire, keel supporter, and new pvc posts with lights. Not to mention that the entire thing has been services and oiled down. Just thought I'd mention it.

Is this boat still for sale? I am interested in the range and size of gas tank. Its a long way from home for me but could be worth the travel

Yes it is, I will have to get the specs out again on the boat to find the tank size, and I am not sure of the range. It is a four stroke though so its pretty good. I drove about 20 miles a day last summer for a week and a half straight without filling up.

Those clasic 18 footers are really nice small boats, and this one looks really clean, tank is 63 gallons.
Good luck on sale.

Re: For Sale: 18 foot Boston Whaler!!!

Im curious about the number of hours on the engine and when and were it was last serviced. Also if there is any stress cracking any where, I didn't see any in the photos but if there were any hiding anywere. Or if any stress cracks have been repaired. And if you have any idea on approximate top speed, we currently have a 17 montauk and are looking for something a little quicker.

I have always like the Montauks, they are light at 950 pounds and
with a 90 they should run around 38-45mph, I have spearfish a lot in them
and taken nice fish.

But is not speed what you should be looking when upgrading to an 18 outrage , it will be faster, yes, but is it a completely diferent boat,
sooo much better in everything, and fuel compsuption with the 4 stroke
should be just a hint more if you push it.

But while it is only 1 foot longer, the hull made all the diference, lateral stability is completly diferent,is so much better than the Montauk, improved ride in waves and chop ,the outrage can be used in the ocean and this small 18 footer has always impressed me.

My late friend Bill Crawford had one, and he used it to go blue water
hunting in the GOM.

Re: For Sale: 18 foot Boston Whaler!!!

When it's flat calm, i've had this thing up to 55, and it might be able to hit 60 with a enormous rooster tail. These are measured by GPS too, and not by the little wheel on the sonar. Rides pretty good. As far as spider cracks go, this thing is an '89 so yes it does, but none of them are structural. Last time i looked at the hours, it was at 330.

Stress cracks are a Montauk thing. In an Outrage, the thing to look for are soft decks on either side, which could indicate water in the foam. It shouldn't be a deal killer, but it might be worth further checking.
