One way to increase discrimination between safety "on" and "off" is to use a cam that presses up against the sear lever when cocked, but swings down out of the way when the safety is off. Here the outer control knob or lever has to rotate through ninety degrees. The black circle just indicates the rotation arc of the cam tip, the cam shape could be a half circle or a partial D shape, only the tip is shown here, the D facing away from the trigger when the safety is on.
