Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

A little late on the post but here is a report from 10/30.

22 miles W of John's Pass to the Treasure Island II reef to find some AJ before the season closed. Seas 2-4', water temp 78 degrees at the surface. Viz was a hazy 20-25' with lots of particulate on the water @ 100' depth.

Shot a few fish and came back in.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Had to run my boat yesterday since it had been a while. Ran out to 30’ off Sarasota and the water was a horrible brown color. Ended up trying to run a few crab traps looking for triple tail hook and line but the water was even too dirty for that. Heard it clears up a ways out but haven’t had time do make a run.

Went out weds NW of Anclote for mostly H&L fishing. Vis out in 45-50' was good. Still no signs of red tide where we were. Water was glass all day and we saw zero bait pods which isn't normal this time of year. Had some shark issues on the couple dives I made.

Had some non-diving friends that I’ve been meaning to get out for some H&L. It just reminded me why I don’t really H&L anymore. It’s so boring! I told them they need to learn to dive.

11/12 NW of Anclote in 40-50, lots of good fish around. We got gags, hogs, and king. Managed my two best gags of the year but.... the sharks are amped up out there. Never had so many shark problems, we literally had to leave each spot after shooting a single fish. Those jokers weren't joking.

Congrats on the king! That's awesome. Wonder if the cooler weather is bringing the sharks back in

Crap - that's not good to hear. I'm heading out on Saturday with 2 of my most shark-attracting divers - and all four of us have shark shields. Should be a good test at least - wish us luck!

I'll be out off NPR tomorrow and will report back on conditions. Got the whole week off till next Monday and hoping to get out at least a few times before the cold/wind sets in and shuts us down for the year.
