malibu area 10/31 report

Stunning day, 35 ft+ vis

Went to beach with the fam but forgot weight belt. So I Stayed in 10-25ft water looking for stray bugs and Halibut. I was floating motionless on surface in about 15 ft. of water when a school of 80+ WSB swam right through, under, and around me. I guess i don't look very menacing. I've never landed one and tried to remain motionless til a keeper came close but the big boys (some 48" i would guess) stayed on the outskirts of the school.

I tried to remain calm, even the slightest twitch of the my body would disrupt the group. I drifted with them for about three minutes as they brushed the sand and circled the area, there were several bait schools inside the kelp line i assume they were partaking of.

While i still do not have a WSB to my name I can see what all the fuss is about, they were a truly majestic group.

Sounds amazing! Too bad you weren't able to get in range on a legal, but good to hear you appreciated the experience none-the-less. I've speared a couple wsb, but I've never seen a group bigger then about 4 fish. I'd love to see a big school like that.
