Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM

Last couple days vis has been pretty bad off marathon. Like 20' out over the reef, 15' over the inshore patch reef. Hope it clears up.

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM

I'm heading to Marathon this weekend too. The vis has been downright awful the last two months. We'll be out in 140fsw, so hopefully we'll get some cleaner water...

Came back form the cudjoe key area from one week of lobster and diving. That place was cleaned out.... 35 lobsters in one week divided by 6 people... ouchh...

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM

Yes, my reefs were pretty cleaned out two. I got 11 bugs on 4 dives. The visibility was really good though. 120fsw of vis to hte T-bolt and on the bridge rubble pile. It was about 60fsw vis on the deep ledge, and then it got greener on the shallower reefs, especially with the ebbing tide. Shot two nice muttons, but never saw a single nice black. And I looked really hard.

Off Marathon the vis was pretty good(50-60ft) at the beginning of the day but as the day went on it got murkier and murkier.

8-29

Thunderbolt....on the low tide..
80ft vis, pretty healthy current flowing to the east. i could see the deck of the ship from the bouys at 15ft.

reef line inside the Tbolt....
40-50ft vis, kindda layered due to the tide flow. light current to the east, enough you knew it was there, but swimable.

8-30

Hawks Channel- Pretty clear for hawks channel, could see bottom in 30-35ft.

Reef- whole reef top to bottom. Crystal blue water. Barley any current to the east. Could see bottom in 90ft.

Shot some mahi, but none huge. Just big schoolies and little bulls.

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM

Vis this weekend (9/12-13) was superlative (>100fsw) at every site: inshore, deep reef, T-bolt, 7-mile bridge rubble pile, shrimp boat wreck (depth 149fsw). Blue water everywhere. The best we have seen all summer. No current. Calm seas, warm water - even at depth (85degrees), no wind.

No large grouper. Water is still too warm, even in 150fsw. Shot a small black, snapper and hogfish. Things will pick up again after the water temp starts to drop. The t-bolt was devoid of any schooling fish. No permit, pompano, AJ's or jack crevalles. Plenty of bait though.
