The same new guys that cannot use the search function to answer these types of questions are the same ones that will not take your comments into perspective.

I consider myself to be a decent local diver and do not think I am anywhere near good enough to pull off a set-up like this. Some of you guys have way more experience and can obviously do it.

Re: WSB Gun purchase

Unless you know what you are doing, ie: have something like at least xx wsb landed (nsert some arbitrary #), or are an experienced spearo, then you certainly shouldn't be going out with floppers and short guns and targeting these fish.

This is true, I switched over over to a 90cm single band gun for most of my diving like 7 or 8 years ago I think. I've taken thousands of shots with them and I've learned a lot in the years of using it, not to shoot big fish in the head with them, close the gap even more than you think you need to, etc.
Probably not the best route for someone just learning to try and hunt seabass with for sure

Im on the same page. Last 5 I've taken were with less than 6 foot shots, all but one rolled over and did the dance of death. I think my old Riffe #3 had a spine seeking shaft or something. It just isn't fair. That being said, a 90cm or 82 roller would put um on ice real quick.

Would 140cm RA be too long?

I know a few guys who shoot RA 140's for seabass, I think its a tad too long but they crush a lot of good fish so what do I know.

Re: WSB Gun purchase

I think I know the position you're in right now, you want to pick the brain of experienced spearos, i know because i am still and always will be doing this. You are looking for a direct recommendation to buy a specific set up, but that is not going to happen. it is all personal preference you need to get out there, put in the hours, and figure out what you like.

Instead of asking around which gun to buy, ask around to dive, and say "hey, can i swing your gun through the water, and see how it feels?" I have held a few different brands and used many brands in the water, i have found my personal preference, but I was on the phone with a buddy the other day, and he had his own preference, him, like many others would scoff at the use of a Euro-pipe-railgun to hunt white sea bass.

I have put in a few hours of effort and thinking and figured out for the most part what I like, and what i feel comfortable will do the job, like Ryan with his Riffe, and Kyle with his 90cm euro gun. I suggest you do the same.

you would be surprised how many nice people would be willing to take you out and let you try their gear briefly.

good luck and dive safe!

Re: WSB Gun purchase

How do you figure this gun would work for WSB? It's 138cm from tip to butt. Shoots a 19/64" shaft with two 11/16" bands. Short overhang with a Slip Tip. Haven't finished it yet, but it should weigh @8lbs all rigged. And, you can sling a Fat Sea Bass over the butt and put the gun over your shoulder and carry the thing.

I can surely test it out for you and send you some feedback. Haha. I love the look of your guns. We had one on the boat for a trip last year and the guy ended up with a yellowtail and dorado.
