Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM
Went to some patch reefs off between Long Key Bridge and Grassy for work today (researchers doing recon on coral heads).
About 3 -3.5 miles from shore. seas - swelly, 3' and a few 4'...but more than doable...maybe a 7 second wave period. vis - researchers said it was about 50'. I could see individual coral heads and fish on the patches in 20-25' of water temp - ~71-72 degrees. Looking out toward the reef edge, the water looked blue...not sure how clear, but definitely blue...and definitely some good swell. Forecast for the rest of the week into the weekend, and beginning of next week is looking the same as the past few days, so it should stay nice.

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM
As if everyone couldn't already tell...
... vis off Sombrero/KCB was awesome today! Ranged from 40ft up to at least 80' depending on where you were. Had the most fun diving today that I think I've had in months, in the afternoon off KCB it was like summertime again.... except for the thermocline! Temp wasn't too bad, I've been in a rashguard and shorts the past week but it was a little cold when you'd get below 5 ft. Got 3 Muttons, a nice Trigger and 12 Hogs between the 3 of us. Missed 2 BIG muttons in the 50 ft stuff which was a bummer but overall had more fun than we should have had for a Tuesday! Only problem now is we're too beat to go out for St. Pattys! |

Couple hours ago, had only about 15ft vis on the tbolt, and 30ft on the reef off KCB.

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM
Vis today off KCB was killer again, not as nice as tuesday but probably still 60-70 ft or so at 50ft depths- a little less in shallower water maybe. Still pretty damn nice!

"KCB" stands for Key Colony Beach, in Marathon.

Vis looks like total garbage from the bridges. But, I wouldn't be surprised if the reef was clear.

Re: Current Vis Big Pine 31MM - Layton 72MM
Went out today off Marathon east of Sombrero Light, inshore in 20ft of water, had about 10ft vis, and on the reef in 50-60ft of water had 15ft vis. Still managed a big mangrove, few hogs, black, and saw my friend (bluewatermagic) shoot and got ripped off on a 30lb+ black.
Only went out a couple hours after school, and going out the vis on the shallow reef in 15-20ft was crystal clear. |
