Dope! Slaying the lings- I especially like the first one, just attached by a flap and you still got him. What great structure you're hunting!

Yeah, the spear was actually in there really well, despite looking like it was only barely hanging by a thread. The spear initially went through the cheek plate on one side and almost all the way through the fish, and I couldn't pull it out even when I really yanked on it. I ended up having to push the spear all the way through and disengage the barbs just to get it out.

Since then I have purchased a thicker band to help get through those big lings.

Great hole hunting! You were putting the hurt on those lings.

I'm just curious, but how sure are you that the last rockfish was a blue? Blacks and blues are very similar, but whenever I've got anything close to appearing that size its a black.

Thanks! Yes, you are right. It was definitely a black rockfish. Biggest one I've ever speared, measuring in at 21 inches.
