Thoughts on perfect key west wahoo gun

Coming down to Key West this winter for a few days of wahoo hunting, looking for some locals thoughts on what size gun youre using for wahoo. I have a Sea sniper 130, and an Ulusub 170 midhandle. im thinking the 130 may be a bit small and the 170 a bit overkill. Was thinking of picking up a sea sniper 150. Thoughts? Thanks in advance

Re: Thoughts on perfect key west wahoo gun

170MH doesn't look so big next to a nice Wahoo. That's a Rhode Island Wahoo.

We make a 155RH with a Bluewater Reel on it. Those are a nice gun for Wahoo too. I made those as a Rear Handle option for Wahoo and King Mackeral, but they can scale down for Muttons, AP, etc or scale up for Yellowfin. You can use either as Reel gun or quickly change over to using breakaway while keeping the Reel on.

Re: Thoughts on perfect key west wahoo gun

I've shot hoos in keys with a 130 SS, but my go to Wahoo gun is a 72in overall length 4 band gun. It is perfect for Wahoo in keys IMO. Never know when 80lb plus Wahoo could show up and they do in keys. Nice to have enough gun to push through a fish that size at 20ft plus. Use the 170 ulusub good gun and you will not be over gunned.
