Any ideas for modifying a boogie board to use as a dive float? Suggestions for placement of game bag, extra webbing to hold a speargun, abalone bar, or fresh water for drinking during those long dives.
Thanks everyone! |

Re: DIY "Banksboard" style dive float?
No way you can DIY a Banks Board. It's just plain too sick to be copied.
You can get a $40 Boogie Board at Costco and go Mabry-style on the mo-fo for about a $80 total. No way it'll float the quantity of dead fish and abalone that a Banks will do, but it's not a bad start. I used the 'ol Boogie for years before John started making "mini-kayaks". Then, once I got a Banks Board, I never looked back.....

Re: DIY "Banksboard" style dive float?
Try again, bro. They run about $130 to $200 to make my boards, unless you cut corners. And you know I don't cut corners.
I wish they were $80. ![]() ![]()

Re: DIY "Banksboard" style dive float?
But just to reiterate nothing beats a banksboard. I love mine but for a diver on a budget this will work.

Re: DIY "Banksboard" style dive float?
Sr. Loco shared a good few links of DIY board floats on this post http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=82584.
I ended up finishing my version of his nice looking board last weekend. I ended up using leash plugs, paracord, and SS rings for attachment points to hold the elastic net and criss-crossing bungee cord portions down. Total cost was approx $80 (scored board at garage sale for $8). Will attach pics shortly. |

![]() Using the latest in advanced spearfishing technology, this float is the answer to the challenging and ever-changing demands of the modern spearo. ![]() This is what I use on all my local dives. Its perfect for shore dives and also amazing if you bring it to the islands for use with white seabass and yellowtail. ![]() Who needs to spend big bucks on a name brand float when you can fully trick out one of these bad boys in no time!? |
