Striped Bass

I pole speared a 23 lb striped bass this past weekend. Just wanted to see if anyone else ever sees these things? I know they're pretty common on the east coast, but this was the only one I've ever seen out in Socal.

Re: Striped Bass

Seems like they’re more common these days. Maybe I just hear of more because of social media. I know they’re breeding up here in LA and I’ve seen some HUGE schools. They get some thick schools in Oceanside too. Tasty sashimi.

Re: Striped Bass

Thats a nice catch there

There's a good amount of them that pass through one of the beaches here in the Bay Area. Angulars catch them during a certain time of the year but i doubt anyone spears them up here.

Re: Striped Bass

They are pretty common during the summer and easy to spear in norcal, often in big schools. I usually see them in less than 10 feet of water.

I was referring to a beach called Linda Mar, we get large schools passing in right outside the breaks. But I also hear people getting buzzed often by GWS. Sooooo prob not worth it

I only know of Linda mar that gets the schools passing by, along with seals and GWS. Hey Let me know if there's a decent spot to intercept them, i would enjoy coming along in taking a few.

I have seen them in the water at most of the other local beaches as well. I think maybe more people see them at LM because that is the only place 90% of people will dive in the area.

Re: Striped Bass

Nice fish!

I shot several in 2016 off local beaches...mostly on smaller side but a few nice ones up to 31 pounds, 43+ inches...

Last two years I saw some but nowhere near the numbers or luck of that year...

Here's a vid and some pics....

Re: Striped Bass

Just recently witnessed a guy on rod\reel catch one in huntington on a huge popper. I wouldn't say its common but this old dude knew exactly what he was doing and produced that bass in no time flat. Nowhere near as big as your catch there. Congrats btw that table fair looks bomb

Looks awesome Jim!!

Hey I would enjoy going out with you next time you go out. Looks like our season up here is getting a bit rough now, but there are few days it pipes down a bit.
