Yeah, I kind of think most of us can hang up the suits for a while

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Headed out yesterday from Anclote with the hopes of running out to 100+’ to find some clean water. A 3’ SW swell forced us to rethink the 50 mile run so we hit some spots in 30- 50’ for some grouper digging which worked out well. Wanted to do some diving but the Vis looked horrible so I stayed dry and warm up on the boat. Gags are still thick out there but be prepared to run deep for a shot at decent Vis.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by "grouper digging?"

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Older terminology when fishing with rod-reels for grouper. Trying to stop the fish's natural tendency to head for the bottom after striking. Hence the term "grouper digging" or digging 'em out of the bottom.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Went out of Venice on Sunday 12/17/17. Super busy day, couldn't manage to get away from all the line fisherman. Weather was beautiful but water was terriblynmurky. Maybe 5 foot viz in 35 ft of water. Still managed a 16" hog and a bunch of sherpa for the freezer. Would like to get out next week if the wind and seas stay calm and clear up the viz.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Hazy but shootable at Pasco IV today. Managed a few gags and hogs and sheeps.

It was clearer in shallow. But only got 6 claws out of my 5 crab traps.

Water temp was 64 degrees.

These fronts have stirred it up I'm sure. The waves have been fun though.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Was out a few days ago out of Hudson. Water was 54 degrees in 50 feet. Viz was good, 40feet or so.
