Shorediving Puerto Vallarta / Punta Mita

Anyone have any experience diving that general area? I'll be there 12/22 - 12/27 and would like to get out for a few days of diving.

Thanks in advance.

I did my PADI OW cert in PV (Bay of Banderas). The vis is not good in the bay and I would guess a bit worse near shore. There are plenty of crocs down there so I would make certain there are no rivers nearby.

Punta Mita should be good for you though. Why not spend a few bucks and have a panga take you out? The commercial fishermen have put FADs out just offshore of Mita and going north that usually held skipjack, dorado, etc. The $60 or whatever a panga costs these days would be worth it IMO.

Now spearing would be AWESOME out offshore in the blue water where you'd have a chance of spearing some truly enormous fish (YF tuna, 100lb AJ, etc) but that requires a 45 minute ride minimum and gets pricey. I used to go offshore fishing down there all the time. I look forward to reading your report!

Thank you for your insight. I really appreciate it. Hopping on a panga for a day or two is definitely the goal. I’ll let you know how I do. -Alex
