Re: free diving class in Utah

I don't think Heber is an option, a guy drowned there freediving a year or two ago and they don't allow it anymore.

I've dove to 60 ft at fish lake, and the visibility was still good, but at 7,000 feet its really tough to dive much deeper. Maybe by the dam at lake powell? When I was there last the visibility went to crap after 15 feet, but that was way up lake. I think its a lot clearer further south

WY has clear, deep water in a number of places. Most of it is going to be 3500' or higher.

There's gotta' be somebody who knows a good quarry in the region. Unfortunately our quarries max out at about 50-60 ft.

What about Lake Mead or Mojave? clear and warm might be nice!

Plus you can bag stripers and strippers on the same trip!

F.I.I. said they have an instructor in orange county,Cali that would travel here but also said they would probably have a level 1 instructor here in Draper(near salt lake) by March. Sounds like everything is looking good for making it happen so save your money and I will post more details as I get them.

Blue Lake is usually murky and not that deep from what I understand, plus conditions are usually only good in winter. Not the best for free diving.

with a 3 minute breath hold, I think I could come close!

Any ideas on the cost? (for the class, not the strippers)

Price should be ROUGHLY $300 - $400. Vis isn't a priority when you get deep. As long as you can see the line you should be good. It gets dark down there.

As far as I know, Level 1 is to a maximum of 66' and 3:00 breath hold. Great class, though.

I would like to attend this course also. Please post more information when someone has it. Flaming Gorge (Dutch John) side might also be a good location. The viz in the canyon can be good at times.
