Double Roller Trigger for Pathos handle, Ermes Sub
Here are my first pictures of the new double roller trigger for Pathos. I am so excited about this and can't wait to put the trigger in the gun and shoot it.
Because of the narrow dimensions in the slot of the handle Mario came up with a very nice, simple and efficient way to hold the front roller in place. It is hard to see on the pictures but it is basically held in place with the sear itself which has a U-shaped end, holding the front roller against the trigger. #nomorepinlinerelease |

When I took out the line release to change it to the left I was able to lower the sear so you can see the cradle in which the front roller sits.

Here you see them side by side. When I line up the pin holes for the retaining pin it seems like the new trigger is a little bit further back decreasing the distance to reach the trigger. Not much just a few millimeters.

Re: Double Roller Trigger for Pathos handle, Ermes Sub
It really is just a matter of dropping the new trigger in place.
Only one minor adjustment. Pairing down a bit of plastic around the line release and I did decrease some tension on the screw holding the release in place to smoothen it’s operation. The only thing I could complain about is that the spear is pushed forward a bit. Now the flopper doesn’t rest on the muzzle anymore which was a feature I really liked. All in all a minor annoyance compared to the improvement this trigger is. I’ll get some o-rings instead. Hope to test this one out asap. With -15 degrees C (=10F) last night I am not getting in the sea anytime soon. Need to find a heated pool.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Double Roller Trigger for Pathos handle, Ermes Sub
thanks for the pics Kodama
damn Mario's done some work to squeeze all that into a Pathos! with that mech, 140 x 7mm Hunt shaft, and single 15mm small ID band @ 380% a Pathos 110 becomes one hell of an efficient gun for anything but real big stuff or long clearwater shots looking at the profile of that mech and the pin slots, am sorely tempted to carve out a Cordia wood version of Pathos handle to slot into the pipe, so the recoil handle is integral - no putty to weigh things down - and the ergonomics are perfectly suited to my hand. end up with some bastard offspring of Dr P. and Pathos. How did you get the mech? What is the source.

The line release returns automatically when inserting the spear.

As a comparison here is a picture of the new Pathos trigger which was just presented at EUDI 2018. It has a side line release but of course it doesn't incorporate the double roll system.

Re: Double Roller Trigger for Pathos handle, Ermes Sub
Yes this is the new DR for smaller boxes such as the Pathos. The Pathos box only has 7mm internal dimension so the traditional front roller will simply not work as even if you used up 1.5mm for the arms your roller would only be around 2.5mm ... that would simply be too much load on the trigger sear and will not work well. Mario came up with the idea of using a "Floating Roller". This does not need two arms and basically it just has a roller that "floats" in front. It cannot escape the shaft sear as the tolerances are such that the roller can only go in side ways before you put it in the box ... once in the box it is locked in. I have only dry fired it and put it through a computer simulation. It seems like it should work really well but these things need to be tried in real test conditions. Mario has been using a modified normal DR that is using this concept and he says absolutely no problems. I hope he put his Patent in place before selling this as I am sure this will quickly be copied. The idea is almost too simple, but if it works well it really would be a major change in how triggers are made. Especially in smaller boxes where a conventional full double roller is not possible.
I will see if I can put it through its paces on a souped up Pathos with 8mm shaft. I got in the pool and took a few shots a few days ago ... haven't taken a shot with a speargun in like 8 or 9 months. Hopefully will be able to test a few things out. |

Re: Double Roller Trigger for Pathos handle, Ermes Sub
I just got these in stock along with the newer "future" double roller mech and so far I'm very happy with how they have turned out! I have not had a chance to shoot it yet but hopefully soon. I did need to dremel a bit for the line release to move freely, as well as a little bit more material in the bottom on the handle where the bottom of the trigger sear rubs the handle slightly when pulled. I'm sure not all handles will do this and it took me less than 10 minutes with a dremel to get it mounted.
If anyone wants to get themselves one to try out..... https://benthicoceansports.com/produ...ollermechanism |
