Southern Open Update!

The Second of the big 3 Gulf Coast tournaments is rapidly approaching!

The Southern Open state championship is the Smallest of the big 3 with around 125-150 participants but has one heck of a prize table!
The Southern Open also boasts that 100 percent of the profits go right back into protecting divers and spearfishermans's rights!

The tournament will be held in historic Tarpon Springs,Florida, right next to the sponge docks and only 5 minutes from Anclote Park Boat ramp.

This Friday, June 16th will be the last night to pre-register for the Spearfishing portion of the contest and the last night to register for the Photo portion of the tournament.

Why pre-register?
You recieve $15.00 off the regular registration price AND you gaurantee that you will recieve one of the highly sought after, limited edition, long sleeve t-shirts, in your size!

Why enter?
1.What better way to help protect our sport than participating in the tournament who's main goal is to raise funds for divers rights?

2. Win great prizes including a furuno GPS, a $150.00 gift Certificate for Berns Steakhouse, trim tabs, liquor, propellers,BC's, regulators, spearguns, dive computers, gear bags, bean bag chairs,
and a whole slew of great prizes that are really starting to roll in!

3. Meet and party with old friends and maybe even make some new friends!

4. The Format: This years southern Open will duplicate last years wildly popular points scoring system that essentially puts everybody, including freedivers and innshore divers on a pretty darn level playing field! IMO

5. BY entering the Photo competition, you double your prize opportunitys as well as recieve an extra mystery ticket!

In addition...There is still time to be a sponsor for this great event but time is running out!
Monday, june 19th is the absolute last day in order to get your logo or name on the t-shirt.
You will also get your
logo put on the FSDA website as well as banner placement(if you have one) at the tournament.
This is a great way to showcase your business, service or product to a group of individuals that
A.have boats.
B.do a lot of diving and fishing.
C. Are opinion leaders.
D. large disposable incomes?

Contact John Schmitt at 727-403-6281 for further info on becoming a sponsor and/or see www.divefsda.com for more info, rules and registration.

See ya there!

I don't have any disposable income. I spend it all on spearfishing and my boat.

I'll be there. Who else? Sound off here.

Re: Southern Open Update!

Today is it! Last day to pre-register for the Spearfishing portion of the tournament and gaurantee yourself a free long sleeve T-shirt and discount rate.
If registering for Spearfishing, you must have your registration postmarked by today or show up Ballyhoos!
It also the last day to register for the Photo portion of the tournament and double your prize picks as well as recieve an extr mystery ticket! Dont forget your camera and film/card if registering for Photo tonight.

So far... it sounds like were going to have the usual number of participants and quite possibly an unusually large number of great prizes.

Re: Southern Open Update!

I want to kill fish this weekend.
Anybody else joining me, or do I get the prize table to myself?

Re: Southern Open Update!

I just got a 120 Rabitech Stealth from Erik Sun at Sumora for the prize table. Its one sweet gun.

Looks like the prize table just a little bit better.

Thanks for the support Erik.

Re: Southern Open Update!

That is the same gun that Erik contributed and I won at the Key West Open. It is a sweet gun. I bought a Rabitech reel for it from Eric.

Re: Southern Open Update!

The Southern Open Tourney is gonna be great this year. I'm gonna retire my freedive gun for this one and slap a tank on since I got an awesome invite on a cool boat. Fortunately the weather is looking stellar and the vis we had on Saturday was surprisingly good (20-25") in 50-70'. The fish are starting to make a pretty good comeback too after last years red tide. Finally we are geting a decent break around here for this years season. Gotta do it now before we get any bad luck with all the storms they are predicting.

Here's a shot of a warm up dive last week. Conditions got me stoked !

Re: Southern Open Update!

Viz report yesterday: 90-100 feeet had nearly top to bottom and at least 60 foot lateral visibility. Better be sneaky this weekend, cuz the fish will see ya coming.
It looks like you could do the Grounds in a 16 foot whaler this Saturday.
This is going to be the flatest tournament of the year!
