Learning the Blue Water Hunt-*FLASHERS*-
What's up Spearboard! I'm new to blue water spearfishing and have been struggling to find proper techniques. I'm planning on buying a flasher to help aid in my success. But I'm not 100% sure on how to set it up. To my understanding, the flasher line is attached to a float. But is it attached to your float line float? Or a separate float that attaches at some distance to the boat? Any info on rigging would be greatly appreciated. Also any techniques for spearing mahi, wahoo, etc, that newbies should know would be great too. 👍🏼

Re: Learning the Blue Water Hunt-*FLASHERS*-
Get a a Mako hanging flasher or make one yourself AND make some throw flashers. I use DVD or blur ays that i don't like, back to back so there are two shinny sides, put some small spare piece of speargun rubber with a knot in the middle, the extra rope from the knot goes through the 2 dvd holes and another spare little piece of speargun rubber with knot in the middle.
Does it makes sense? |

Re: Learning the Blue Water Hunt-*FLASHERS*-
Here is a diy option for flashers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDTpjTE37gE
I haven't been able to find the boxed wine with silver mylar here in the States, but found some 2 mil mylar, fish eye stickers, and silver mirror tape (along with acrylic from Lowe's) to make my own. I'll start in today on putting one together. Not sure if it is Coates' company, but they are available for sale. Search for "buzzbomb flasher system" Mako stuff looks good, too, and I'm sure people have had great success with both. One more tool for the toolbox... |

Re: Learning the Blue Water Hunt-*FLASHERS*-
best to have the flashers attatched to a separate float (not the one attached to your gun) and have that float with you so that the flashers are right close to you

the Wanchese flasher from Maverick America has been the best one I have used. The mako ones break easily

Chumming around the flasher helps bring in the dolphin, wahoo, etc closer to you for a good shot.

We hang our flashers from the boat and then use throw flashers.
