Wrist Watches
Nothing like the right watch for your wrist,
whether it's the beefy masculine look or something streamlined and attractive, be it black or yellow or anything in between, men's or women's, one of our most basic tools is our watch. Gotta be waterproof, that just stands to reason, for the outdoor man maybe a digital compass (damn if I have been able to find one that really works as well as a traditional compass), various timers, even temperature, tide and barometric pressure, which one do you choose? I always liked the old G-Shock design, however in actuality the buttons didn't work well, and you finagled with the buttons a lot, just bought G-Shock Telememo a few nice features include data entry for names/ph # vibration alarm that really works comfortable functional buttons water resistant 20 BAR , they improved the buttons and made it better The E-Tide & Temp is an interesting watch, attractive timepiece, b ut I find the dials are easily confused Last edited by zeN; 08-30-2010 at 09:41 AM. |

Re: Wrist Watches
nice thread...I dive in my immersion prowler but I wear my Tag Heuer chronometer daily and on some dives when I forget the Prowler..It is from the link series and I got it as a HS graduation present.
i would like some more fancy features, but i am really happy with a bombproof watch that keeps good time |

Re: Wrist Watches
Seiko Orange Monster. Self winding and has huge luminous markers. When my fancy OMS bottom time died last week this is what I used for my deco!

Re: Wrist Watches
I hear ya,
Bombproof is the first order, I like the options, but they don't always hold up, had an Oregon Sports watch with temp, altitude, compass, etc, really liked it but mine didn't hold up very well, still looking for that really cool sports watch that works rock solid, this Telememo I just got stores names w ph numbers, which is really cool, and the very best thing is the freakin' thing has a vibration setting (down girls) for the alarms that really work, as many know they rarely make an alarm on a watch that really works well, this is very functional, it also helped me to rationalize my buying it on a whim |

Re: Wrist Watches
Phone numbers in a watch is like a clock on a cell phone.....oh, wait...nevermind, it does that.

Re: Wrist Watches
EVERY watch I've ever used underwater has flooded at one time or another. This range is from the Rolex Oyster Case to $10 Timex watches. I consider all of them disposable.
MY requirements for one are that it be non-digital with luminous hands large enough to read in dark water and waterproof to the depths I take it. beyond that I like to loose as few $s as possible when it finally goes south. Manually wound or self-winding mechanical watches generally will keep reasonable time even flooded, at least long enough to get you to the surface safely. They do tend to slow down a bit when damp so your stops are a bit longer though.

Re: Wrist Watches
If this is for 'any' dive watch, than it's an easy choice for me...Panerai Destra (made with a reverse mech for left-handers, or instrumentation on right wrist). Have used this in extreme conditions (hot-cold, wet, high-alt), easy to read, bomber reliable. Bonus is, it's handmade and a pretty face I might say
I also like my MEC B series Militarie, dual time zone...got that as a nifty gifty after a presentation

Re: Wrist Watches
Thanks, got it serviced at the original facility in Florence, IT. The shop is the size of a large closet filled with grumpy old men. The 'master' was delighted to see my watch all battered and dinged, and did not need any re-calibration to the gooseneck or incabloc. Amazing considering the bricks, rocks, ice, etc it's been hit against.
Have had a Rolex and IWC as working watches...the Rolex's are terrible!

I had this watch and swapped between the metal strap and NATO/ZULU straps...I say had because after over a 100 dives, the seals decide to fail on me on a piddly 30' shore dive...hoping Seiko will cover it... |
