New Jersey Inlets: The big four, and the small four.

I believe that there are eight inlets in NJ that one could dive, but two of those might not be worth a second look. I don't count Cape May because the Coasties seem to have it on lock, I could be wrong though. I don't count the unimproved inlets either, because they seem to lack structure of any kind.

Re: New Jersey Inlets

There are jetty and jetty. The one at BI is probably the biggest, and nicest.

Beside, reelers on the jetty and anglers charter boats are free to fish in the inlet, any time any day, why would spearos be excluded ? The usual ratio reeler/spearo at BI is at least 20 to 1. 20 reelers for 1 spearo...
All the while with motorjets ski doing crazy manoeuvers in the middle of the inlet in the WE.
I am OK with that, everybody should have his fun, but then, why can't the spearos ?

Without any further clarification, I'll take that Provision#3 prevails.

Beside, I thought that the story of big asses hired on AA or cronyism along with fat salaries and who had to justify their fake jobs once in a while by inventing a new law, did not apply to NJ. Was I wrong ?
What are they?

Re: New Jersey Inlets

What are the provisions ? it's Barnegat inlet : no spearfishing in the Week ends between June1st and Sept.
for what reason ?
knowing that there are 300 reelers (Ok, maybe not 300, but a good 20) on the jetty, half a dozen boats fishing the inlet and 2 or 3 motorjetskis playing with the waves.

Tourists. Thats the reason. Makes no sense. But there are 1 million laws and regs that make no sense. Just the way it is.

Back in the 1970s there were arguments between divers, fishermen and boaters over divers in the inlets crossing the channels and "being in the way". The NJ Boating Commission was asked to intervene. The New Jersey Council of Diving Clubs negotiated a compromise preventing us from being banned from all inlets.
