More pinch weights, now in 2 lb size

I have another batch of pinch weights for sale, this time in both 1-1/4 lb and 2 lb sizes. These fit the soft belts like Omer, as well as the stiffer Rob Allen, and pretty much anything in between. I know that they have been used on Sumora, Cressi, and Picasso, among others.

For those who may not have seen them before, the inside of the belt slot has a slight hourglass shape. The little "see through" wood model in the first two pictures shows how when the rubber belt is stretched, it gets thinner, and the weight slides easily. When the belt is relaxed, it gets wider and the weight is locked in place. Super easy to adjust, even without taking off your belt. The actual weights are solid, one piece lead, without the screws you see in the model.

I have 29 of the 1-1/4 lb weights for $5.00 each, and 17 of the 2 lb weights for $7.50 each. I can get up to about 40 lbs worth in a USPS flat rate shipping box for $9.00.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: More pinch weights, now in 2 lb size

Quick question -- Do the weights tend to move when you pick up the belt?

I often wear 20+ lbs of lead and have found that "friction fit" weights will suddenly move when the belt is picked up off the deck.

That's one reason I've been using weights secured in place with screws. Has this design solved that problem? If so, I'd be interested in checking them out sometime. Thanks.

Chip, The weights only move when you want them to. Amazingly simple yet effective design.

And NO, I'm not sponsored.

I can see how stretching the belt lets you move the weights, but how do you get the belt past the pinch when you first put them on. Do you have to cut a long taper so that you can get it through far enough to grab?

Re: More pinch weights, now in 2 lb size

Good question Bill. I've had to "modify" a number of weights over the years to fit properly on my belts or harness. It is sometimes difficult to get the weight onto the belt because they are a snug fit.

I have some weights that I would tap on the sides to make them fit snugly on the belt. But when I would pick up the belt to put it on, the belt would stretch (and thin) and the weights would slide off. I don't like dropping lead on the deck.

It sounds like these weights don't have this problem. Hope to get a chance to check them out. Thanks.

Re: More pinch weights, now in 2 lb size

Chip - Here's a shot showing a Rob Allen belt with nine 2-lb weights hung vertically on the wall. The weights will not move unless combined they are heavy enough to stretch the belt enough to loosen the "pinch". Even then, they could not move past the next weight below them.

Bill - You do have to trim the end of the belt a little, but it doesn't require an excessivly long taper. As you mentioned, you just need it to protrude through the weight enough to get a secure grip so that you can grab the belt and stretch it. 4"-5" or so is enough for me to thread weights on a Rob Allen belt, and softer belts would require a little less. And the belt need not be tapered to a point. Mine tapers from the full belt width, to about 3/4" wide at the tip.

Looks good. I have to cut off more of my RA belt than that just so it isn't sticking way out in front of me.

Re: More pinch weights, now in 2 lb size

Jeff,

As I mentioned in the PM, I think there is a huge market out here for weights like that. People are always looking at my weight belt and asking where they can get weights like mine. I have some with a stainless set screw made by a guy in Los Angeles a few years ago, but he has disappeared now. And I have some that I got from FF a few years ago that have to be tapped by a hammer, but he doesn't seem to carry them any more. If yours work as well as your customers say, I bet you could sell all you could pour on the West Coast once the word gets out.

It would make me more likely to drop my weight belt too, knowing I could get replacements.
