Murk Layer

Out of JP 7-8-18. Went to 97' and the water was a nice royal blue on the surface. Looked like great vis when looking down the white jug line. Yep, great from the surface till 65'. Water temp. went from 86F. to 81F.. That;s where we hit the thermal murk layer that went all the way to the bottom. Horz. vis. was murky 8' max.. Coming up the jug line and at 65' you could see the orange jug on the surface. We hit 2 other spots in 90'+ a few miles apart. Same results. Even shinning a light into holes and cracks had a lot of reflected light. Very little gumbo. Went into 55'- 50' and had almost top to bottom vis.. A good 30'-35' horz. vis.. The 3 of us shooters ended up with a total of 3 gags and 5 hogs in the box. Anybody else run into a thermal murk layer?

Re: Murk Layer

We were way north of you. We went out of Anclote northwest about 40 miles. First drop was 100 foot. we picked up five American red. thermocline as you described. Visibility went from 50 feet to about 20'. Hazy, but not bad. Next spot the other divers got into some nice fish. Watched jr almost go over rod n reeling, but he secured (with help) his 21" ARS followed by another 19.5" ARS. I caught 2 as well. Divers closed out limit when they surfaced. My next dive was 92'. Picked up 3 slipper lobster and some hogs and some mangos. Viz 20'. Last dive was 82' and more hogs and mangos. Viz 20'. I didn't get into the gags. We filled the cooler. 10 ARS, 20 mango, 10 Hog, 3 gag, 3 scamp, but I was happiest with my 3 slippers as I seem to be blind to them. I only get them when I shoot a fish and it falls into a hole or goes into a ledge and scares them out it seems.

"On the table," I just heard! I'm out!
