Recreational harvest of hogfish in state waters remains open. FWC will consider whether to close the recreational hogfish season in adjacent state waters at the Sept. 27-28 meeting in Okeechobee. If no action is taken at the September Commission meeting, the recreational fishery in these state waters will close Nov. 1, 2017, as previously scheduled.

This is going to end up like red snapper, just another fish you can never really take.

Thanks for the additional info. I highly doubt hogfish will remain open after that meeting though.

Considering the fact that most recreational Hogfish are caught in State waters there will be no major impact felt till September.
There is no doubt that FWC will follow the Federal Guidelines.

I believe the new regulations already went into effect, bag limit reduced to 1 and minimum size to 16" in state waters. So until they're closed either following the Sept. meeting or in Nov. as scheduled, rec harvest in state waters is 1 per person and 16" min.

I agree, lots of small hogs, not many big ones where people routinely dive. But I have been seeing a lot of nice hogs while lobstering in dirty water lately.

On additional note, even though it's still open in state waters people need to be careful about shooting hogs in state waters, than going out onto the reef (federal waters for the most part in the keys) and shooting fish out there.
