Re: Nevada and Arizona visibility reports

What about in the lake, like if you start on the west side and motor to the east side?

Can anyone confirm this? All I can find is that 2 stroke PWC's are banned

Re: Nevada and Arizona visibility reports

I said: "On a side note, apparently the new laws regarding the banning 2 stroke outboards is in affect. It may be of interest to some if considering the idea that there could be many boats for sale, but to the degree that boats flood the market making it a buyers market, I can only speculate. Attention out of staters."

A quote from a related forum:
Hey Capt. Don, I know how you feel, my first boat that i bought had a 2-stroke outboard. I seen the writing on the wall and sold it. Hated to do it especially after all the work i put in it. But i didn't want to wait 'till the last minute. There are a lot of boats out there for some good deals right now and seeing that you run a business up there, it might be time.

Apparently the ban is on carburetor injected motors.

1. I'm no stranger to current as the waters I dive in New England have some of the worst. Is there a strong current at Willow Beach? Does the damn release at certain times? Is it best to walk upriver and jump in and ride down? How do you guys do it? Is there a kayak rental at Willow? Is it best to use a kayak there?

2. What can you kill? Carp and Striped Bass I know... anything else? Fishing license needed? If so does AZ offer a day pass?

3. I've eaten just about every fish that people call trash fish... anyone eat the carp there?

4. My biggest gun is a 55" (140cm) enclosed track Hatch mid-handle... which is as big a gun you need here in New England. Should I bring a bigger gun?

5. Is there a cheap hotel in the area you can recommend? I won't be bringing a tent and I thought it would be nice to stay over night. If there is a bar around and you want to join the wife and I for a drink... I got the first round.

Thanks in advance for the info.

John
IMO
1) Current this time of year is not going to be high as Vegas doesn't need the energy to run their air conditioning. Not to say that there may be a random big need for energy that will create a heavy current. About the kayak rental: I attempted to rent a kayak before an they made me sign a contract that says I will stay in the kayak and keep my life vest on. This obviously does not work for diving. Walking up river is not really an option as the terrain is very rugged. I suggest you swim a mile-mile and a half up river and drift down. If you can handle 52 degree water and another swim do it again. One option you can explore is hitching a ride up river with someone going that way. I have not had good experiences with H&L guys there so they may not be receptive to taking you.

2) Carp and striper only.
3) If I were to eat carp. The river is where I would eat them from. Cold clean(ish) water.

4) Bring the biggest gun you have as you are not limited by visibility.

5) Hacienda Hotel, Nothing special but a warm bed and a casino to take your money. I may be down there when you are for the native fish roundup we do every year.

Good luck.

Hey John,

1. I wouldn't mess with kayak rentals, not necessary. Just jump in and swim up or down river, you'll find em. We did..........
trip report

2. Striper and Carp. You won't see a huge variety of species in the river, probably catfish (mutated ones at that), razorback, and trout.
Yes, get a license, you can get it online or at the marina at willow beach.

3. I wouldn't even mess with trying, but have at it.

4. The 55" will work but "bigger is better" for the river, I've used a 120cm Mako Hybrid and 140cm Mako ETR with great success.

5. Stay at the Hacienda on the Nevada side, that's your best bet. Make sure to make your reservation online, cheaper that way. I wish I could join ya man.

Have fun and good luck! Text/call me if you have any questions/concerns.

Cheers!
Chad

Spring break is nuts at the lake i don't even bring a dive flag because they will purposely try to hit it.If you are on the lake you have to find a cove of some sort.I just go to willow you shoot the same fish there.
