1. Registration is open until close of business, June 5, 2008. Tickets may be purchased on line or my mail: c/o Hell Divers, 3513 43rd St., Metairie, LA 70001. Registration fee is $50 includes a Rodeo T-shirt and FREE BEER. Pre-registration by phone, mail, or e-mail via pay pal (REGISTRATION) is allowed. All participants must be known to the HELL DIVERS prior to the start of the rodeo. Call (504) 833-1884. Mailing address: 3513 43rd Street, Metairie, LA 70001-2840. 2. Valid fishing license is required of all participants. 3. Diving is open to all waters. 4. Competition starts Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 12:01 A.M. and ends Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. Divers must in line at 2:00 P.M. with fish, no exceptions. If in line, you must inform the weight master. 5. All fish subject to autopsy. Divers must inform the weight master of how fish was shot: scuba, skin, or freediving and your age if 17 or under (Junior Division) or 55 or older (Senior division). 6. Scales open Sunday, June 8, 2008, from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. ONLY. 7. All decisions by Rodeo Officials will be final. Weight Master has final said of weighting of fishes. 8. Headquarters for the Rodeo: The PENINSULA @ WILLIAMS BLVD. BOAT LAUNCH, KENNER, LOUISIANA. LOCATED AT THE END OF WILLIAMS BLVD AND LAKE PONCHARTRAIN (MAP) 9. No power heads allowed. 10. Fish must be speared and apprehended by diver without assistance. 11. Fish speared from boat are ineligible. Diver must be submerged. 12. Skindiving and Scuba are allowed. Freedive Division see Rule 27. (Skindiving is defined as the line attached to the gun or to the diver. The use of a reel on a speargun will be considered skindiving for the 2008 HDR. The use of floats and burgee cords will go under the Freedive division. NOTE: These rules DON’T NECESSARILY follow the LCUDC rules for skindiving and freediving.. 13. Diver must present registration stub or email confirmation to enter fish. 14. Diver must be present to win entrance prizes, Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. 15. Each category will receive a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place award (Rule 24). 16. All 1st place fish receive 3 points, 2nd - 2 points, and 3rd - 1 point, that go toward King/Club/Boat Awards (Rule 24) 17. A separate board will be kept for the purpose of tabulating points toward Champion Skin Diver, Queen Spearfisherwoman, and Champion Freediver (see Rule 27). The 3-2-1 point(s) system will be used with ties broken by cumulative weight of fish(es) on these boards. Only fish shot skindiving (see rule 24) will count for Champion Skin Diver. Only fish shot (rule 24) by women will count for Queen Spearfisherwoman. Only fish under rule 27 will count for Freedive Division. An award for the 1st and 2nd runner-up will be presented on the skin, women, and freediving board. These three (3) boards points will not count towards any other awards. 18. The David L. Irwin Memorial Club Award will be awarded to the Club with the highest point total (rule 24). 19. The Warren “Whip” Mermilliod King Spearfisherman Award. The “Whip” Award will be awarded to the diver with the highest point total under rule 24. 20. Ties for King/Club/Boat Awards will be determined by the cumulative weight taking awards. 21. In case of any ties due to weight, the earliest fish(es) entered win(s). 22. In the Miscellaneous category: Fish only: No Ocean Sunfish, Redfish, Jewfish, Shark, or any other fish that is closed 23. No Shark category due to the close season, if shark becomes legal it would place under Miscellaneous. 24. Eligible fish are as follows: AMBERJACK, BARRACUDA, COBIA, GROUPER, JACK CREVALLE, MANGROVE SNAPPER, MISCELLANEOUS (SEE RULE 22 & 23), RED SNAPPER, SHEEPSHEAD, SPADEFISH, STINGRAY and TRIGGERFISH . 25. CHAMPION SHEEPSHEAD DIVER AWARD and/or Sheepshead Aggregate will be used to determine the Champion Sheepshead Diver Award. Sheepshead Aggregate will be a stringer of five (5) Sheepshead weight at one time. Only one (1) stringer per diver and points earn in this category will not earned points toward any other awards. This special award is to commemorate our 1st Rodeo and to acknowledge our roots. 26. New for 2008, a catfish stringer of three (3) catfish weight at one time. One award only same as rule 25. 27. Rules for Freedive (formally Blue Water) Division are five (5) fishes, YELLOW FIN TUNA, BLACK FIN TUNA, WAHOO, DORADO, AND MISCELLANEOUS (all legal fishes not listed). Fish may be shot with or without the aid of a buoy in open water. Diver may let go of the line and follow the line with the boat. Diver must bring the fish and/or line to the boat without assistant. The boat may go to the diver. The diver may hold on to a down line or to the boat anchor line when shooting the fish. Fish must be shot without the aid of compress air. Bait chumming is allowed. Any length of line allowed. (Understand that there are rules for certifying record fish that disallow the practice of letting go of the buoy as well as chumming and other diver assist rules) REELS are NOT allowed when taking fish for the Freediving categories. Any fish shot with a reel will be entered into the skindiving category. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place fish will receive an award. On the 3,2,1 point system, a Champion Freediver award be awarded. Fish shot with line attached to the gun or to the diver will go under skin diving. 28. Three (3) places on the Senior Division: Champion Senior Diver, 1st Runner-up, and 2nd Runner-up. Diver 55 and older as of June 8th. Winners are chosen by the largest fish only for each diver. Three (3) places on the Junior Division: Champion Junior, 1st Runner-up, and 2nd Runner-up. Diver 17 and under as of June 8th. Winners are chosen by the largest fish only for each diver. ALL Senior and Junior DIVERS MUST INFORM THE WEIGHT MASTER OF HIS OR HER AGE AT THE TIME FISH IS WEIGHT.

Official rules changes were directed at rule #12 and #27 and will be posted this afternoon. The changes will read as follows:
12. Skin and Freediving will all be combined for the Master Board. RULES: Skin and Freediving will be defined as a diver holding his and/or her breath while using a gun with a LINE, CABLE, RIDING RIG, and/or REEL attached to itself. (NO FLOATS OF ANY KIND ALLOWED IN SKINDIVING AND/OR FREEDIVING for the Master or Skindiving Board) Diver must land the fish without any assistance until returning too the boat. NOTE: These rules DON’T NECESSARILY follow the LCUDC rules for skindiving and freediving. 27. Blue Water Division - Categories include five (5) fishes, YELLOW FIN TUNA, BLACK FIN TUNA, WAHOO, DORADO, AND MISCELLANEOUS (all legal fishes not listed). Blue Water Division will be defined as a diver using FLOATS and/or BUOYS for any of the five fish categories already listed. NO fish shot with the use of floats or buoys will be allowed on the Master or Skindiving Boards. |

so freedivers arent allowed to use buoys if they want to go after amberjack or any of the fish list on the regular divisions? cuz ive been shooting some big amberjack that are to big for a freediver to use reel for.
