Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Yes, and we had to go that far for the AJ as well. AJ closes here Oct 31 and unlikely we will be able to get out for them again as next weekend weather looks bad. So this was our last chance this year most likely for AJ and ARS.

Goal was to get our ARS and AJ and then come in shallower for gags and Hogs. Cpt and his buddy came up with 4 ARS pushing 15# and 4 nice big male hogs. Was optimistic for my dive. Was not as fruitful but we got 3 ARS and some mangos plus I got 2 nice hogs. Next dive was a wreck in same depth. Big AJ's came up to boat. Cpt got 62# AJ and his buddy got one. We back dove and closed out AJ. Moved in shallower because of fears if sea did not lay down we would never get home. Ran 25 miles E at 10 mph and dove in 65'. Viz was a hazy 20' and temp dropped to 77-79. Just small fish. Would have done better staying in 95' with better viz and bigger fish, but that was appropriate call for rough day. Heard viz was very nice closer to shore.
We stayed in 65 feet and had same results as you did in that depth. Wish I would have pushed farther, but had 1 inexperienced spearo and two hook-and-liners. Funny, our uptop conditions were almost perfect. 1-2s at the most all day, mostly 1's.

Yeah, I was amazed at the size, and in less than 60 feet of water. Thought he was a grouper at first. Luckily I nailed him good.

Well...ETA Shure stirred things up. At one point they said 18' waves off shore.
Starting Friday were looking at 2' seas, and Sat, Sun, Mon 2' or less.
What is the consensus on how long it's gonna take to get back any decent visibility ?

The visibility was pretty stirred up before the arrival of ETA. That South/SW wave action really stirs things up on the west coast of Florida. The only good news is the water temp is dropping so that will help but it could easily take 2 weeks of relative calm to get back to some reasonable vis. However, there are a couple cold fronts arriving soon and that is not gonna help at all.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Dove deep Fri 11/27 and shallow 11/28.
Friday went S out of Clw pass and was in 125'. No thermocline. Temp 74 degrees. Viz in top water was 0-80 ft. under 80 Viz was about 20'. No more significant amounts of jellyfish. So that's nice. Mainly was gettting big red grouper, but managed a 30" gag and a couple of hogs. One diver managed a real, heavy stringer on his last dive on a ledge with gags, hogs, ARS' mangos and red. Otherwise it was a few fish here, few there.
Sat was N and never hit 40' and were limited on gags and hogs before 2 pm. Temp 71. Viz 25-30'. Current ripping in for the am.

Nice couple trips David......glad we finally had a few days of flat seas. October and November were just brutally windy.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Great job, guys!

I had the whole week off. Went diving Wednesday off Anclote in 35-50 feet, did ok with hogs, mangos, no grouper. Friday was hook-and-line in 80-100 feet off Dunedin. No ARS, but caught 2 red grouper, a bunch of lane snapper, some bonita (great fight), and encountered 2 mahi that just wouldn't take any bait we threw at them. Saturday saw us hitting spots in 20-35 feet off Hernando. Great conditions and decent viz. Got a bit sharky on most of our dives but nothing we couldn't handle.

Saturday saw some awesome action - big gag, awesome hog, sherpa, mangos of respectable size, etc. Tyson got his son into the saltwater for the first time and we all had a great time. Video coming soon. The Pelican performed perfectly, as always (thanks, Honda!) though my new Raymarine was a little glitchy (hopefully can fix that soon - love the 9" screen and killer sonar clarity). Found some wonderful new spots and spent 35 minutes in awe of a new spot I named "The Misty Mountains" - can't wait to dive it again.

Nice video. Lot of wildlife. That's why we do it. Nice to see the little fella getting going with diving.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Out of Clearwater Pass December 12, 2020. 62FSW. 67°. 20 feet of viz. Lots of grouper on ledges.

Had a great time rod and reeling gags with Cpt Ty and Brook. Then did a 10 min drop and closed out our gags. Fantastic day!! Will post a little video later.

Similar experience out of Clearwater in 45 feet. Did one dive with my 13 year old. 65 on the bottom. Probably 20 foot on the bottom but easily stirred up. Fishy with hogs, gags and mangroves

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Out of Clearwater pass 12/23/2020. Viz in 65 fsw was 20-30'. Temp 61 degrees.
Viz in 55 fsw was 15-20'. Temp in the afternoon up to 63 degrees.

Lot of fish on bigger pieces of structure like ledges and rock piles.

Not sure what the viz would be like after the Christmas blow. But expect it to be pretty cold now.
