First time Roller build

Just started with my first time roller build. It's going to be a blue water 60" double roller with kicker. Laminated the blank now just waiting a couple of months before starting in on this beast.

Re: First time Roller build

Without continuous straight edges on the sides of the blank, how are you planning on routing out the mech pocket and track? I noticed there was a gap on the outside laminates, this might pose a problem regardless of whether you are using a handheld router with a guide or a router table with a fence.

Re: First time Roller build

I'm glad you caught that, because I didn't! So my fix is to plane the sides down even. There should be enough room for the double rollers being that the difference is only .4". I had it setup so the sides of the roller pockets had plenty of thickness. Or I could add another piece of wood to the thinner part and plane it to the size of the head. The gap is small enough to were the wood should still pass by it along the fence without getting hung up. You can see that I add some width to the front of the blank in the picture of it hanging. Then again I could be completely wrong. Again thanks for noticing rookie mistake

Re: First time Roller build

Cut the roller slots after letting the blank sit for a few weeks. Still waiting to cut the track though. I want to make sure there is not warping at all.
Now after cutting the holes I am concerned that I got a little too close to the end of the wood on the leading roller slots. Thinking I may have to add a little teak there to cover my backside.

Next, I'll cut the trigger mech slot. I decided to go with a Neptonics reverse mech to add even more length.

Re: First time Roller build

Finished with the handle. I put a coat of penetrating epoxy on it just to protect it as much as possible before the installation.
