Re: Inverted Roller Build

Just about finished shaping the stock.

Below are pictures of the retention points for the two or three bands on the bottom of the gun. The center points are slightly higher than the sides, which will enable the recesses to "catch" the wishbone between the bands as you pull them back.

As I built this only for myself, and it is not a production design, I kept the tabs close together and as close to the trigger guard as possible to squeeze every inch of power. I'm sure it will take a little bit to get the loading procedure down.

Also, I wanted to do it this way instead of with pins or other means of holding the wishbones because I hate the idea of a snag point for the shooting line, however unlikely.

Re: Inverted Roller Build

One problem you may see with how are hooking the band's is when you fire a roller a shock wave will travel up and back on the band after the shot ,this can bounce the band off a shallow hook and potentially snag on the shooting line , just something to watch for when test firing the gun

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Thanks Phil, will do. I was planning on building the hooks a little higher with carbon fiber and resin, but I think I'll wait until I start taking test shots to see if they remain in place.

And if not, I'll build them higher.

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Just finished shaping and laying fiberglass on the handle. Getting pretty good at these.

Super comfortable and keeps my wrist in nice straight line.

That handle is pretty sweet. You can really get a sense of how wide this gun is!

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Decided to inlay a bunch of mirrored material into the body of the gun.

Inlaying on a curved surface is a pain. Regret choosing to do this each time, at least while I'm doing the work.

- Cut the material.
- Rout out the space in the stock.
- Insert material in space.
- I had to pin the mirrored material in place with tiny little tacks because it wouldn't conform to the curved surface.
- Epoxy in place all around insert so nice and watertight (and use some blue glitter powder for accents)
- Add coats of epoxy and sand until the surface is flush again.

The finished product came out pretty amazing. Going to put these everywhere I can fit them on the gun. No idea if it will bring fish any closer, but the mirrored material has excellent light reflection.

Pictures don't do it justice. I'll try and get some with decent lighting once I'm done with the rest of the surfaces.

Re: Inverted Roller Build

Once I had a seabird plunge in unobserved behind me and grab my wetsuit ankle zipper tag which in those days were shiny nickel silver brass. I felt a strong tug on my leg and thought "uh oh" and whipped around to see what had hit me. Looking up I could see what at first looked like a weird crab floating on the surface, then I realized it was the underside of some large bird when it poked its head in to look down. Attacks on flashing objects can come from above as well as below. The bird never broke the tag off, but his beak left a slight mark on my ankle.

I do fish shaped abalone inlays in alot of my personal guns , I oncertainly had a little white sea bass come vertically out of the haze and hit the inlay

Thats the first thing i thought of seeing these decorations, all well and good to attract some edible fish, but what if you attract some big fish that think YOU are edible?!?!
