Re: Spearfishing Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Anyone know what airfare is from Cali to Loreto? Should be cheap right? As far as convenience, only 60+ miles to Mag Bay and 80+ miles to Mulege both from Loreto airport.

Speaking of Mag Bay, I hardly read of anyone on the board spearing that way. I know its remote, but I understand more infrastructure has been built. Im wondering is it as epic as ive herd. Rod and reel guys act like they've died and gone to heaven when they talk about it.

My tickets Indianapolis to Cabo are $515 for April, checked today for Loreto and it is $1015, 19 hr flight too. The option to drive from Cabo for 18 hrs r/t, no way Jose! It looks pretty awesome around Mulege though. Maybe if I had longer than 8 or 9 days for vacation. Until I can take a longer vacation or make more money I'll be happy on the East Cape. Only 93 more days!

Cool...We will be there in May...our tickets are usually 5 or 6...but caught a deal at 373 each from Texas...Learned to watch the prices fluctuate and catch a deal.

Like what?
I've been to Thetis half dozen times and it's never disappointed. Like 70 lb wahoo. But there is a lot of focus there now.
If you leave from Tijuana, air to Loretto is much cheaper.

If you say so . But there is a lot more focus being put on BOLA and Turtle. Thetis has been a mecca for a long time.

I never hear shit about bola, and I know a few guys who hit it.
Turtle definitely gets dove a bunch.

I love spearfishing Baja, some of the best trips of my life....but have you guys checked out flights to Panama? At least from the mid-west, they're cheaper than getting to Baja right now. I hear there's a few fish down there too.

Well to hear those here wanking about how spearfishing pressure is ruining their personal Edens, Panama is suffering more and interestingly the same guy pimping his catches is associated with both the demise of Thetis and Panama.
Somebody call the Riffe Dream Team and make the place the subject of another flood of "hey look at us!"

*note- if no one is talking about BOLA it's because they're smart and lay low. Good advice.

Tough call. I don't think anybody is getting rich off of spearfishing charters. It's like everything else, lot's of advertising and more and more people in the sport. Same thing as hunting big bucks. Tons of new TV shows and lot's more people in the woods.

Look at what the La Jolla Cove/Boomers area used to produce 50 years ago compared to now. You can't have a sport like this without some degradation, but I seriously doubt spearfishermen alone would do any damage to an area without the commercial and line guys to help.

I don't know about 70lb., but here's a pic of Sven (aka: 415dvr, Icarus Pacific, SpearqueerShop, Chad McDouche, etc.) with a 'hoo that looks to be about 35ish...
maybe 40.....

Everyone knows,

Each time we tell our "fish story", it some how gains 5lb. in weight and 6 inches in length. Such is the reality of Spearfishing forums.
