Question Washerwoman Shoal, Marathon Key

Freediving Washerwoman, any advice? Heard of nice Gags and Blacks...true or false?

I've dove it, but was a little disapointed. A few Gags and Reds. The bridge is the place for some big Blacks...but they are really hard to shoot. You got to get a slack tide and have someone drop you off and wait a distance away. They are much smarter than the average Red.

Straightshaft,

Blacks are usually difficult to spear in the open. Usually you have to get them to hole up and then spear them. Another way is to relax and hide behind a coralhead or a ledge. The hogs and maybe some groupers will come up to check you out and BANG! I think anywhere you go in the Keys this time of year you have a decent chance for some blacks, hogs and muttons.
BTW, I notice you are a freediver. It's good to see that more freedivers are getting into this forum (not that we have anything against our SCUBA brethren).

My Buddies were freedivin out there last week. 13 blacks, 4 over 20lbs.......15 muttons and a dozen hogs, not bad for a single day.

I see there's been mixed results at the site. Guess I'm going to have to sling some steel there to check out the action myself. I'll try the bridge at slack as well. Thanks all!

If you try the bridge...go to the middle of the channel then W (south?) about 10 to 15 pilings (on the old bridge). You'll find the big Blacks there.
But keep that info to yourself
