Re: Bust at Monastery beach

x2. These guys broke the law and I'm sure they regret it. We all make mistakes.

Re: are there any regulations we should be pushing for?

You are being a little preachy but I like your style. I suggest you write/call DFG if you're really interested in the sheephead regs. They're pretty receptive and can tell you how the size and take...

Re: Yoga for Freediving

I got started with yoga a couple years ago doing the P90X "Yoga X" workout. At this point you can probably find it streaming online for free. I'd highly recommend it.

Re: Very fame! Wow!

x2. Forrest is going to be off having adventures while I'm getting carpal tunnel sitting at a desk.

Re: lingcod in carmel?

You're smart to take it slow and not push your limits. Your 4 minute static sitting at a desk or in a warm pool doesn't really translate to what you can do in the ocean, so be wary of those who say...

Re: Striped Bass

Congrats Rick! I'd be over the moon if I shot a striper. I've yet to even see one in California.

How did it taste? You know the more mercury you eat the less lead you have to wear.

Re: Careful out at the paddies

Thanks for posting. Hard to watch but it's important to see. I'm glad your friend is OK.

Having samba-ed at the surface a couple times I can relate to the loss of motor control that caused him to...

Re: Going to Maui

Anyone who thinks spearfishing in Maui is easy is a much better spearfisherman than me! After 3 trips and dozens of dives, I can count the number of 30 pound fish I've seen on no hands. Kumu and...

Re: Expansion of the Bivalve PSP Closure

Thanks for the heads up, just picked a bunch of clams in Tomales Bay.

Is the muscle still safe to eat in clams as well?

Headed to Newport

Hi all,

I'm coming to Newport this weekend (Sept 14-15) with my girlfriend and hoping to get in the water if the weather's OK. I have plenty of experience on the west coast but I've never dived in...

Re: Gear Review - Riffe Knife

Yeah, that looks like a defect. I'd expect a replacement.

I've only ever used Riffe knives and they've never rusted like that. I've used my current Riffe knife for probably 5 years. I usually just...

Re: slip tip stuck to adapter

That's your problem right there. The Riffe adapter tapers so it's prone to jamming in the tip. I jammed mine when I shot into the sand at a halibut (lost the fish of course). I've heard of other...

Re: The 2011-2012 Mushroom Thread

Those are some pristine chants! I'm looking forward to getting up there this fall.

I think this thread has lasted exactly 1 year longer than intended. The 2012-2013 season just ended and the...

Re: GWS hits a kayak @ Linda Mar Beach Pacifica

Just watched the interview. The kayak is sort of an elephant seal grey.

Yikes. I was in the water at Montara 2 days ago trying not to think about sharks.

Re: Hands free equalization. Beance Tubaire Volontaire?

During PFI they told us that about 1 in 10 people can hands-free clear. So your gift is somewhat rare. I can usually clear my left ear by yawning... which is an entirely useless ability.

Re: Saturday in Humboldt

I don't understand why the trophy ab craze is to blame. If trophy hunters are only taking abs over 10", what happened to the smaller abs? Very disconcerting indeed.

Re: abalone steaks- cut with or across grain?

Basically you simmer it in water or broth for about 2 hours. My dad turned me on to this when he made an abalone chowder, but I think it has potential for a lot of other applications. I think...
