Re: South Texas Freedivers "Mini Kat report Sunday 8-23-08"

The cobia in the first picture is not as small as it looks. Its just the relationship of the size of the man to the fish.;)

Re: South Texas Freedivers report (shallow water blackout)

Thank God Cesar came for me! The thing that really made this ordeal go on and on was I believe, in about my second recovery breath, a wave crested my face and I sucked some water in my lungs. I was...

Re: Port O'Connor Freediving Trips

Nice fish Dave! The summer will be over before we know it and it will be the first one we haven't dove togather. By next year I should have a place for you, Scott, and Ken to lay your heads down...

Re: South Texas Freedivers Report "8-23-08" Sat

Missing that third and smallest Cobia was the only bad part of the trip. I waited to do my “hello cobia” dive until I saw Cesar enter the water. I dove down about 35’ stopped looked around and...

Re: South Texas Freedivers Report (Part II -6/22)

Dave,
Sorry to hear about your boat. Offshore boats are a money pit! Do you know Bryan Enos the transplanted Hawaiian with the 25’ diesel boat? I will PM you his e-mail. Really nice guy and he...

Re: South Texas Freedivers Report (Part II -6/22)

Cesar,
Awesome trip! I don’t think those taxmen are bull sharks. Below is a bull shark picture. My Texas saltwater book says, “Bull sharks can be recognized by their heavy body, wide head and...

Re: Missing Boat Help Needed

That would be nice, but the national seashore doesn't have cell phone coverage. It's a 110 miles and is the longest undeveloped barrier Island in the world - according to their web site.

Re: Missing Boat Help Needed

Thanks for all the concern and especially Cesar's help with the coast guard and Rodney info as well. The wife did kick my butt!

I did have a handheld VHF, but the good and the bad about diving...

Re: TPWD's Statement on snapper issue

Way back when I used to pole fish, I liked to pry their mouths open enough to slide a lead weight in before throwing them over. My theory was when they got down to the bottom they would spit it out....

Re: Pics from Saturday of Firsts

No wonder I haven't seen a cobia in weeks. Everyone that off Texas is hanging with that whale shark!

The size of those cobia is incredible. The one whaleshark encounter we had last year the...

Re: I didn't know this, did you?

Thanks for sharing that. I knew you needed the basic state commercial license to take federal commercial fish back through state water, but the recreation one is a new rule.

The commercial issue...

Re: What fish finder?

I had one the original Humminbird GPS combo. It only had 300 watt ff, but it kept the bottom at any speed all the way to about 600' deep. My high dollar Furuno 582, with a through-hull transducer,...

Re: Gps

Your right, it's the 498 that is the combo with coastal line marine built in maps. I owned the one but without the ff. The Garmin was very logical and easy to use.

I have heard nothing but good...

Re: Gps

I tried this several years ago when Humminbird’s said their marine gps had streets on the maps too. I installed a mount in the car and found out the only street it had in our area was I-37.

Most...

Re: Thank You Daryl!!!!

One thing nice about Wongs (Aimrite), Steve Alexander trigger, and other standard triggers is you can put your finger behind the trigger when diving, which in effect, makes a safety. Some of the new...

Re: Latest News on the Freediver's Safety Vest Project

I played with this idea too, even purchased an inflatable vest and other material to try and build one that would inflate upon release of a hand held device. But after further experience and...

Re: Close by oil rigs off west Louisiana?

I’m no badass kayaker. I just can’t afford the motorboat anymore. 5 miles would be about my limit as well. In the Corpus area, on the few rigs that are within 5 miles, the vis can be adequate for...

Re: What is the Ideal Spearfishing Boat?

A 36' Palmetto is a nice boat. I am on my second cat and have more experience with them, especially the problems, than I wish I did. My current boat is a 28’ Kevlacat with E-tec 250’s. When you...

There is some good wisdom in this thread. The one point I want to try and make though is that you can’t assume a small...
