Re: The 2011-2012 Mushroom Thread

Re: The 2011-2012 Mushroom Thread

Found a beautiful Hericium yesterday - it was fruiting on a dead oak about 10 feet off the ground. I had to pry it off with a long stick. Almost four pounds....

Re: The 2011-2012 Mushroom Thread

I tried to send you a private message but was not able to.

Are you thinking of these as potential for a side dish you'd serve your family?
It certainly looks like Gymnopilus - you say the spore...

Re: The 2011-2012 Mushroom Thread

as far as edibles #1 and #3 look like candy caps - #4 looks like the caps of Helvella lacunosa - a very under-rated edible in my opinion

Re: The 2011-2012 Mushroom Thread

I agree - blewtts are great. Just be sure to key them out. I know San Diego can be rather void but blewitts are considered choice - so it's worth finding out.
I think there must be serious fruitings...

Re: The 2011-2012 Mushroom Thread

I agree it isn't satanus - could be B. regius, B. rubripes, B. bicolor, B calopus - tough to say but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

I showed the photos to a mycologist friend of mine -...

I usually use it in soups.

Re: The 2011-2012 Mushroom Thread
