Ike Jime (spinal cord destruction) fish killing

I learnt recently that the Japanese kill fishes by

1. cut spine and vessels at the head.
2. cut spine at the tail
3. run a wire down the length of the fish at the spine to paralyze the fish....

I think the warft has a fish cleaning station, but it's a hassle to park and walk the distance to use the station.

Is there any other fish cleaning tables in Monterey?

It's difficult to scale...

How do you fill out the abalone card?

- I fill the bottom tags before the top table. When I fill the report card from the top down, I find the tags usualy get wet from my wet elbow and palm.

- Try not to hang my head over the tags....

My friend received a bite from one of these fishes in shallow water.
It didn't break the skin, but she got a good bruise mark from it.

Each 3 to 4 feet long.
What fish is that ? Thanks.

Thanks for the reminder.

I always buy my Hunting license by faxing the online form to DFG directly. Saves a few bucks and a trip to stores that may or may not have the license and stamps.

What's your favourite Monterey dive shop for air fill.

Years ago, my dive instructor told me one of the dive shops at Monterey uses the Nitrox filter for their regular air fills, and it's "cleaner".
Any idea which shop that would be?

When I dove in June, the <10' rocky bottom area with no surge was covered in 1' of kelp. Made the dive extra hard. Imagine shore picking under water, got to feel the ab's .

That is very true, when I'm home (4 hrs away from water) the urchin bag is usually dripping the white/orange stuff. I would spoon the roe out, and put it in fresh water, and the white/orange stuff...

My experience is you have to eat it within hours of getting them out of water. I once left 2 urchins indoor overnight in air. They were still alive the next day, but they tasted very bad.

A lot of good points. I wanted to add that my dive spots are usually launched out of a beach and do not require hikes.

Which board to get for shore dive.

I had my mind set to get the Morey 41" body board from Costco for ab dive, and then a $99 foam surf board caught my attention.

The extra space for storage will be nice because I like to get a load...
