Re: Shafts...Can't find the ones I like anymore.

Hi guys,

we make the wire fin option because we found the full weld needed on the solid fin caused the spear to warp from the heat. It also becomes soft in this zone and can bend/crack easily.

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Hi Jon,

There is no galling from the spear on the sear notch. This is probably because the spear steel is much harder than the sear steel and, the spear in my opinion does not drag over the...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Hi Jon,

Please read this

https://www.bssa.org.uk/topics.php?article=11

Reading that makes me even more resistant to using s/s as a trigger.

In our case, it does not work with...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Hi Pete,

Yes that was a while back. This was the same mechanism with the folded sear. The sear did not fail, the roller would stop rotating after a few shots. The cause was that thin pin...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Hi Spearq8,

Thanks for the drawings, looks great. I had seen this before on the Omer that Pete put up. Great idea in theory. The pivot pin in the roller needs to be larger for it to rotate...

Re: What To Do About Rubber Rot (gummy bungees)?

We don't use latex rubber on bungees for just this reason, we use a type of TPE. It still degrades but over a much longer period. It's not as stretchy but more than sufficient.

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Thanks for all your input and spearq8 for your offer to modify the cassette.

As Pete mentioned, we have made many changes to this handle over the years. Many small changes had unknown knock...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Hi Jon and Pete,

As mentioned, interesting thread.

First off, regarding this test machine we built, it was built to test 2 or 3 gun handle components per manufactured batch of 1500. It...

Re: Which Countries ship spearguns and gear to the US?

Hi FalconSpearo,

Since you are using our Rob Allen product as an example I will explain. If you were to purchase a gun in South Africa, you will still have to pay freight and duties (if any...

Re: Rob Allen knot.

If the loop hooks up and the tag end is pulled through, the knot is still there, just no longer a slip knot, will still hold fine. If it is too tight to undo, cut it off and re tie.

Re: Rob Allen knot.

Any knot or lump on the tag end will make it easier to undo but, this is something that can now hook up and pull the loop out, for example when being dragged over a reef.

I saw this happen when a...

Re: Rob Allen knot.

Hi Andrew,

I was dragged about a mile by a sailfish with this knot after he stripped my reel. I was using the 1,5mm, thinner Dyneema and there was no problem, I was still able to undo the knot...

Re: Rob Allen knot.

We don't recommend a bow line because you need 2 hands to undo. We recommend a slip knot that can be undone with one hand. This does not come undone while diving. Many large fish have been landed...

Re: Rob Allen Carbon Fiber Barrels

Pete, you are correct, there are so many variables.

In this case, the shaft does not get knocked totally off course, just into an oscillation while in flight, slowing it down somewhat.

Re: Rob Allen Carbon Fiber Barrels

It must have an effect due to drag. The less the spear wobbles in flight, the faster it will fly, the harder it will hit. We did have a slight drop in penetration which proves this. Both these guns...

Re: Rob Allen Carbon Fiber Barrels

If you check the YouTube clip at the end, the spear is definitely knocked by the muzzle on the ali gun..

Re: Rob Allen Carbon Fiber Barrels

Hi Pete,
I have just weighed 2 x 1,4m plugged barrels.
The ali with sticker is 672.4 grams and the carbon air brushed is 409.2 grams.

The carbon is actually too light, so we add a small...

Re: Rob Allen Carbon Fiber Barrels

Hi Jolinedaniel,

Has our distributor come back to you yet?
Re spear diameter and rollers. We found the 7mm is best with a 14mm band and the 7,5mm best with a 16mm band.
