Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Water temperature in the Boston harbor was 'balmy' 50 degrees back on Wednesday. I don't think that's normal. Saw plenty of bass schoolies, only a few togs and some small fluke or flounder - could...

Re: ASMFC Atlantic Striped Bass Board Approves Addendum VI

I agree it'd be a challenge, but my concern was that they'd ban taking striped bass altogether, so glad that did not happen.

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Dived in Newport this past Sunday, took three sizeable tautogs and saw schools of bass, but the only decent size came close when I was swimming with a tog toward the buoy to string it.

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Thank you, Agador, MeTAo and fishboy 76! This is all very helpful! I have dived today and found visibility to be pretty decent on high tide. Areas with sandy bottoms had visibility up to 6-7 feet,...

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Has anyone checked the visibility today in Newport or elsewhere in Rhode Island? With all the waves on Wednesday, it must be murky, but would be grateful for any updates. Thank you.

Re: Tuna Gun Comparisons

Hi, everyone. I am contemplating buying a new gun/shaft/bands that would be powerful and sturdy enough to take and keep a large fish, such as a 100-200 pound tuna. Do you think this gun can work:...

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Dived in Newport on weekend. Once past the upper layer, in which you could not see even half of your gun because of what looked like Algae blooming, there were some decent pockets of visibility of...

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Sorry to hear your GoPro case got flooded. Mine did just as I was about to film some 'pioneering' footage of me collecting crawfish in Armenia's Lake Sevan and I must say it really annoyed me.

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Sea along Ocean Drive in Newport looked like a washing machine in spite of NOAA's forecast of waves of only 2-3 feet, had to move to a spot north of Castle Hill, where took togs on low tide with...

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

In my view, visibility of 10-15 feet looks quite decent when compared to what you'd normally encounter off Newport.

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Came across a 22-24 inch weakfish today in Newport, but didn't shoot it because I had no idea what kind of fish it was until I went back home and did some research online. Visibility was about 12...

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Dived in Newport today. NOAA's forecast was wind of 10 knots and waves of mere 2 feet (and on surface they probably were), but even when passing depth of 15 feet I had to put in extra effort to...

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

Yes, I use the it-has-to-be 18-inch-by-default rule too. I dived with a friend in Newpot and in Narragansett on Saturday. My friend took a 29-inch striped bass, whereas I came out empty-handed. I did...

Re: Daily Vis Report Thread

I see either fluke or flounder regularly, but I always forget which is which and refrain from shooting either.
