An FEA solution by hand would be simple as long as the number of nodes was low. Matlab could be used to bump up the speed and stop me from crying like a baby.

I have to switch my computer with another one and load all my software and do some real work. If I get time I might try a bunch of analytical solutions for the same barrel and load and also do an FEA...
